I’m going to go ahead and add their ongoing insouciance toward Canada on the Keystone XL pipeline to the Obama administration’s already impressively long list of foreign-policy blunders and undervaluations; sure, administration officials will readily affirm that Canada is “one of our closest partners” and “greatest friends” and whatever else, but just saying the words isn’t quite the same thing as actually helping a brother out on strengthening their economy and building up their natural resource production. Canada is our largest commercial trading partner and the country from which we import the most oil by far (followed by Saudi Arabia, Mexico, and Venezuela, ahem), but bully for them if they want to add a simple pipeline to the several million miles of pipeline already crisscrossing our country — and there’s really nothing they can do about it.
Bloomberg has a big rundown out today of the now five-year history of the Obama administration’s political gamesmanship on the proposed pipeline, and Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper’s extreme weariness of it:

Does Canada have any cruise missiles?
If the Canadian Army were to suddenly move south, I think they would find much support among the American people.
I can’t believe that this Keystone pipeline has been in the pipeline, pardon the pun, for over five years.
Of course we have to study big projects and of course someone has to greenlight whether we undertake it or not.
But five years, and we still need to study things further??? Really????
We won World War II in less time than Obama and his boys have been kicking around the pipeline.
My guess is that Obama is afraid of ticking off his enviro-nazi base by approving it, and by kicking the can down the road, keeps everyone on the Democrat plantation.
Obama has voted present in his political career a lot. He’s voting present on this by declining to ever make a decision.
Bring some Molsons.
RE: I cant believe that this Keystone pipeline has been in the pipeline, pardon the pun, for over five years.
Tell me about it. Here in New York State, fracking has been studied to death for nearly a decade. And even with the EPA giving it a bill of health, Still no approval.
He is not alone. A lot of us are fed up.
RE: Does Canada have any cruise missiles?
Don’t know what the relevance of the above question is to the topic of this thread but...
A public furor arose in 1983, when the Canadian government approved a plan to test cruise missiles in Alberta. The project was shelved. So, I guess the answer is ‘no’.
Well, Obama doesn’t give a damn about offending Canada, especially since Harper is a Conservative. But his chief concern is to damage the United States by cutting off as many of its energy sources as he can manage.
“If the Canadian Army were to suddenly move south, I think they would find much support among the American people.”
The Canadians are too smart to attempt nation building in a nation that is doing it’s darnest to deconstruct itself.
Then I guess presenting Bammy with a reset button is the only hope.
Obama is a marionette, doing what he’s manipulated to do by the powers behind the “throne”.
Useless.
.
Used to have Bomarcs, but that was a long time ago.
I’m guessing he has orders from Russia to keep kicking it down the road. Russia is on the edge financially and the approval of the pipeline would be a great threat to them.
Canada should build a pipeline westward to the Pacific. Even if they build the Keystone Pipeline, what’s to prevent some future Obama from shutting off the flow to “save the planet”?
a) Weakens America/AmericansI have yet to have anyone raise a single substantive counter example in several years of posting this.
b) Distances America's allies
c) Strengthens America's enemies
d) Serves Islam
e) Harms Israel
Or some combination of the above.
a), b)

Aborting jobs is politically more acceptable than killing jobs...
Hopefully this will become the key issue in the 2016 election and the end result will be a Republican president who will quickly approve Keystone. But knowing what a weasel you have in the WH now, and the deputy weasel wanting to run, that may lead to a pre-emptive deal with this government in 2015. If the Oil Sands are heating up the earth, they are doing a pretty poor job of it, the areas immediately downwind such as the prairies and Great Lakes have just had their coldest winter in decades.
