The Real Story Behind The Bundy Ranch Harassment

By now youre familiar with the standoff between the federal government, i.e. the Bureau of Land Management, and 67 year-old rancher Cliven Bundy. .. The BLM asserts their power through the expressed desire to protect the endangered desert tortoise, a tortoise so endangered that their population can no longer be contained by the refuge constructed for them so the government is closing it and euthanizing over a thousand tortoises. The tortoises, the excuse that BLM has given for violating claims to easements and running all but one lone rancher out of southern Nevada, is doing fine. In fact, the tortoise has lived in harmony with cattle in the Gold Butte, Clark County Nevada for over a hundred years, or as long as Cliven Bundys family has lived on the land as ranchers
...
A tortoise isnt the reason why BLM is harassing a 67 year-old rancher. They want his land. The tortoise wasnt of concern when Harry Reid worked BLM to literally change the boundaries of the tortoises habitat to accommodate the development of his top donor, Harvey Whittemore. Whittemore was convicted of illegal campaign contributions to Senator Reid. Reids former senior adviser is now the head of BLM. Reid is accused of using the new BLM chief as a puppet to control Nevada land (already over 84% of which is owned by the federal government) and pay back special interests.
BLM has proven that theyve a situational concern for the desert tortoise as theyve had no problem waiving their rules concerning wind or solar power development. ... If only Clive Bundy were a big Reid donor.

Interior Approves Two Ivanpah Valley Solar Projects on Chemehuevi Homelands
ICTMN Staff
2/20/14
Two controversial solar projects in the Ivanpah Valley, a renowned desert tortoise habitat that contains traditional homelands of the Chemehuevi Indian Tribe, have been approved by the U.S. Department of the Interior.
The 300-megawatt Stateline Solar Farm Project will be built in San Bernardino County, California, on about 1,685 acres of public land thats two miles south of the California-Nevada border, the Interior Department said in a release. This facility will be able to power 90,000 homes via photovoltaic panels, and create 400 construction jobs plus 12 permanent jobs, the department said.
Likewise, the 250-megawatt Silver State South Solar Project near Primm, Nevada on about 2,400 acres of public land will be able to power 80,000 or so homes. That will be next to the 50-megawatt Silver State North Project, an Enbridge enterprise that has been operating since 2012 and was the first solar plant on public lands to deliver power to the grid. Silver State South will also use photovoltaic panels and will generate an estimated 300 jobs during construction and 15 permanent operations jobs, the Interior Departments media release said.
The projects, which straddle the California-Nevada line, had been under scrutiny and been met with legal action by environmental groups and the Chemehuevi Indian Tribe for their infringement on endangered desert tortoise habitat, among other concerns. In its official Biological Opinion on the effect of the solar farms, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service calculated that the projects would displace or kill up to 2,115 desert tortoises, mainly babies and eggs that could be destroyed because they were not seen, reported public television station KCET in October 2013. At the same time, the Fish and Wildlife report said that although about 2,000 desert tortoises occupy the sites, the projects would not harm the species overall, KCET said.

It doesn’t serve Bundy’s cause well to not be accurate in saying things like this: “They want his land.”
That is simply not true, the land isn’t Bundy’s and never was. Accuracy matters, especially when people are saying things like “this is the beginning of CW2.” Stick it to BLM, stick it to Reid, but be accurate and stop acting like Bundy actually owned the land.

Cannot remember the source right now, but involved petroleum rights/development in the area. Think Whorey Reid’s name was mentioned.
Looking to find the documentation.....

You make a good point, but this article is actually one of the better ones making the rounds. In the arid West, actual ownership of the land is not nearly as important as ownership and control of the water rights and the grazing rights.
Bundy claims that Clark County owns the land. The Federal government holds the title to the land, but Clark County controls the grazing rights and Bundy has a well established claim to those grazing rights for which he has paid the authorities. He also controls water rights, which is just as important. That’s the way things work in the West and why land disputes always center around water and grazing.
Reid and his cronies, together with their environmental wacko partners in crime have co opted the Endangered Species Act and the Environmental Protection Act to run legitimate ranchers out of business by denying them their water and grazing rights. It’s organized crime in operation out on the range and when they can’t get the courts to go along, they bribe or change the judges.

Isn’t Reid’s son mixed up with some sort of Chinese firm. maybe there is a connection. I do know Bundy won’t will. They will make something bad happen and everyone will back off. It is legal for our government to murder us.

It's not about that brand of reptile, it is about a snake named Reid, the Mormon Temple Recommend Reid, who is orchestrating a deal to net him power and money via his cronies who want the land to raise 'solar panels' for sale. The pollution the Chinks will be allowed to spew upon the land will not even be noted by the fedzilla enviro protection racket once Harry's deals are finished.
Take note of the posters who will try to defend the fedzilla actions but claim they are only trying to keep the discussion honest.

It's not about a danged tortoise.
The BLM is killing hundreds of desert tortoises.
Desert tortoise faces threat from its own refuge August 25, 2013Back at the conservation center, a large refrigerator labeled "carcass freezer" hummed in the desert sun as scientists examined the facility's 1,400 inhabitants to find those hearty enough to release into the wild. Officials expect to euthanize more than half the animals in the coming months in preparation for closure at the end of 2014.
More glaring proof that the FedMob is incapable of managing lands or wildlife.

So have any of the good lefties asked what impact the solar farm will have on the tortoises?
No?
I thought not.
It’s just like their lie that everything they do to enlarge the iron fist of the State is ‘for the children,’ though what they do actually harms the children, they couldn’t care less about the tortoises. That is just a tear-jerk excuse to attack a US citizen and pay off their debt to the ChiComs.

The most complete data is from the Beaver Dam Mountains. Woodbury and Hardy reported a tortoise population density of 150 per square mile in 1948. BLM reduced cattle grazing a few years later and eliminated cattle in 1970. Coombs reported a tortoise density of 39 per square mile in 1974. In these 26 years cattle use was reduced 100 percent and tortoise numbers were reduced 74 percent.
These tortoises were doing so poorly a veterinarian, Dr. Jarchow, was consulted. He reported all six specimens were suffering from osteoporosis caused by a protein deficiency in their diet. Dr. Jarchow examined five specimens from the same mountains that shared their range with cattle. He reported these specimens were all healthy and well nourished.
The historical record proves conclusively that tortoise thrive when cattle are on the range with them and without cattle grazing they are always malnourished and unhealthy and their numbers plummet.
