Militias head to Nevada rancher’s standoff with feds: We’re not ‘afraid to shoot’
Washington Times ^ | April 11, 2014

Posted on 04/11/2014 11:23:53 AM PDT by Jim Robinson

Nevada rancher Cliven Bundy’s decades-long battle against the federal government over grazing rights has heated to the point where militia groups have joined in and taken up spots against the feds who’ve circled his land — and talk is, they’re not afraid to open fire.

A spokesman for the one of the militia groups said as much to local 8 News Now: I’m not “afraid to shoot,” he said.

Margaret Houston, Mr. Bundy’s sister and a cancer survivor, said at a town hall gathering this week that the situation “was like a war zone” and that she felt “like I was not in the United States,” The Daily Mail reported. The Las Vegas Review-Journal described it this way: “Serious bloodshed was narrowly avoided,” in a story about how dogs were unleashed on a woman who was pregnant while the rancher’s son was hit with a taser.

On Tuesday, armed Bureau of Land Management agents stormed Mr. Bundy’s property, escalating a court dispute that’s wound for two decades over the rancher’s refusal to pay for grazing fees.

~~snip~~

Now militia groups are on the scene, promising to help the Bundys keep up the fight.

“This is what we do, we provide armed response,” Jim Lordy, with Operation Mutual Aid, told the local broadcast station. “They have guns. We need guns to protect ourselves from the tyrannical government.”

Mr. Lordy also said “many more” militia groups are coming to the site to join in the Bundy family defense.

Nope. The restrictions on the number of cattle may have been ridiculous, but the cost per animal month (cow/calf pair counts as 1) is the same for everyone across the board for grazing.

Then how do the tortoises factor into the equation?

I recall hearing that the BATFE and FBI have sent agents and SWAT teams to take control of the situation from the BLM.

That is why this is different: if shooting starts I don’t see much safe haven for any Fed dude in that county.

I heard of an FBI agent conversing with a gun rights activist. FBI dude asked if he would go to a Waco like siege and shoot federal agents. He replied no, there are plenty of federal sons a bitches right here to shoot at.

Where is Harry Reid? It’s his state.

The new head of the BLM worked 8 years for Reid. The entire Fed government is corrupt.

The Fed Jack Boots will do Harry's bidding.

I’m sure they do. They would like nothing better than to slaughter these people to teach us all a lesson. I doubt they think they can get away with another Ruby Ridge/Waco. Sometimes arrogance makes people stupid, but they have to be cautious enough to know this isn’t the 90’s. If they had total control of communications like the did back then, they’d already be painting these people as crazy cultists by now.

As mentioned..this is not the same as Waco...and shouldn’t be compared with IMO.

Not sure what the ultimate outcome will be....but history seems to point you can’t fight city hall..and is where this stands currently.....and has for years....it should have been handled way back when.

Looks like the ‘BLM changed the rules without seeking the ranchers imput’.......seems to me that was where the issues esculated. The Government overreached.... yet again.

But seems to me since he’s been in court so long....likely he’s not a Reid supporter.....and there ya go.

My understanding was that in the 90s, they reduced the amount of AUMs allowed (from 1,000 to 150 is a number I've seen thrown about around here, but no official source). It was the reduction in herd, not the fee per AUM,that he was upset about.

Also, I've been told by some who know better than me that an equivalent fee per AUM on private lands is more than 4 times what the feds charge. Somewhere between 5 and 6 dollars per AUM. But, I can't find any data on that, so I don't know for certain. All I can find is source data on the federal rate for AUM on federal land (BLM and Forest Service).

I'm beginning to understand (beyond cheap, taxpayer-subsidized labor) why the ruling class is in such a hurry for immigration reform. Just think.. millions of people to choose from to staff a quasi-military force who have no loyalty to our heritage, many with drug cartel wars experience, all set to go for a career killing gringos!

/sarcasm but not entirely.

If that is the case this will not end well for the ranchers. Wouldn’t Obama have to be informed and ok this as well?

Seems to me when I learned about the First Amendment way back in the last century, it applied to every citizen ALL OVER the United States. Now it is restricted to a fenced in area designated by 0bama's gestapo?

Same here except in Texas. You do acknowledge that you are a citizen of the U.S. and I suspect that you, as I, claim rights and privileges under both the constitution of your state and the U.S. Constitution.

Bundy, while seemingly a very genuine and very nice man, asserts that he does not follow “hardly any federal laws.” Well, guess what? We already have 12 million illegal aliens who refuse to follow federal immigration law. That hasn’t been a good thing.

I think Bundy means well. I think he wants to assert Nevada’s right to own lands within its borders. I agree with him on that. The U.S. has no business owning 80% of any state’s land. I think if he could pay the State of Nevada for grazing rights, he would and that would be the end of it.

The problem with Bundy’s logic is that he cites the parts of the U.S. Constitution that fit his arguments and ignores other parts that do not. That’s not how the FF intended the U.S. Constitution to work.

On the other hand, neither are the actions of the BLM how the FF intended the federal government to act. So ...
