By SHIREE BUNDY COX:
I have had people ask me to explain my dad’s stance on this BLM fight.
Here it is in as simple of terms as I can explain it. There is so much to it, but here it is in a nut shell.
My great grandpa bought the rights to the Bunkerville allotment back in 1887 around there. Then he sold them to my grandpa who then turned them over to my dad in 1972.
These men bought and paid for their rights to the range and also built waters, fences and roads to assure the survival of their cattle, all with their own money, not with tax dollars.
These rights to the land use is called preemptive rights.
Some where down the line, to keep the cows from over grazing, came the bureau of land management. They were supposed to assist the ranchers in the management of their ranges while the ranchers paid a yearly allotment which was to be use to pay the BLM wages and to help with repairs and improvements of the ranches.
My dad did pay his grazing fees for years to the BLM until they were no longer using his fees to help him and to improve.
Instead they began using these money’s against the ranchers.
They bought all the rest of the ranchers in the area out with their own grazing fees.
When they offered to buy my dad out for a penence he said no thanks and then fired them because they weren’t doing their job.
He quit paying the BLM but, tried giving his grazing fees to the county, which they turned down.
So my dad just went on running his ranch and making his own improvements with his own equipment and his own money, not taxes.
In essence the BLM was managing my dad out of business.
Well when buying him out didn’t work, they used the indangered species card.
You’ve already heard about the desert tortis.
Well that didn’t work either, so then began the threats and the court orders, which my dad has proven to be unlawful for all these years.
Now they’re desperate.
It’s come down to buying the brand inspector off and threatening the County Sheriff.
Everything they’re doing at this point is illegal and totally against the constitution of the United States of America.
Now you may be saying,” how sad, but what does this have to do with me?” Well, I’ll tell you.
They will get rid of Cliven Bundy, the last man standing on the Bunkerville allotment and then they will close all the roads so no one can ever go on it again.
Next, it’s Utah’s turn. Mark my words, Utah is next.
Then there’s the issue of the cattle that are at this moment being stolen. See even if dad hasn’t paid them, those cattle do belong to him.
Regardless where they are they are my fathers property. His herd has been part of that range for over a hundred years, long before the BLM even existed.
Now the Feds think they can just come in and remove them and sell them without a legal brand inspection or without my dad’s signature on it.
They think they can take them over two boarders, which is illegal, ask any trucker. Then they plan to take them to the Richfeild Auction and sell them.
All with our tax money.
They have paid off the contract cowboys and the auction owner as well as the Nevada brand inspector with our tax dollars.
See how slick they are?
Well, this is it in a nut shell. Thanks”

You seem to make sense.
Then a sentence like this comes out...
“When he stopped paying grazing fees, the federal government sold his grazing rights to the Clark County Multiple Species Habitat Conservation Plan.” TC
One question - How does the government get to sell grazing rights that belong to Bundy?

IIRC, water rights were part of the recognition of the right to graze cattle on the free range area where the water right was located.
GB, at Paragon Foundation may be of some help on this issue, as might be his son.

.........Lis Wiehl was saying tonight like a broken record “it’s the law”..........”it’s the law” the ranchers are wrong “it’s the law”.
I’m screaming at the TV set “where’s your damn law on Holder being in contempt, on Benghazi, over Fast and Furious, on IRS, on 37 violations of Obamacare and list goes on and on”. Last serious accounting I saw was over 100 violations of law by this administration and many people dead! Watergate is a picnic in comparison.
So, when I see fed cops with dogs, stun guns, helicopters, snipers, MRAP’s and so on I’m thinking two things. I’m scared of my government and I am mad at my government. In my opinion that is what it’s all about out there on that stretch of desert road................namely “the misbehavior and disrespect of our laws by this Obama Administration”.......they are miscalculating the depth of the American peoples anger in a way if continued is going to lead to some people getting hurt, or worse.

Just a coincidence, I'm sure. ;-)
Some have speculated that oil and gas leases are the real reason. Maybe it's solar.

Hold on ponygirl, you need some context here. My original position was that the US Federal government could do with its land the same as any other land owner under the concept of property rights. We tire of your .gov-lovin' patter, taxcontrol.
The simple fact of the matter is that in the lower 48 and in Hawaii, the federal, state & local governments are the only REAL landowners.
If you seek to rebut my post, just send me copies of your delinquent property tax notices for the next three or four years. I'll purchase the properties that you "own" for a song from the REAL owners.

The tortoises are now not endangered (as if they ever were) and the Gov’t is now euthanizing much of the population because the area is overpopulated and can't sustain it's tortoise population!

The grazing rights only belonged to Bundy when he paid for them. You need to understand the situation prior to the passage of the Taylor Grazing act. At that time, a lot of federal land was not being used. No one was allowed to graze on Federal land. Now, in truth, some people did but they did so without the land owner’s (federal government’s) permission so they were not paying to graze.
Then the Congress realized that by opening up federal lands to grazing, they could boost the industry and create more jobs, lower beef prices, etc. To do this, congress passed the Taylor Grazing act which established a system of fees for ranchers so that they could increase the size of their herds by grazing on US government owned land. Ranchers then paid their grazing fees and “leased” access to graze their herds in 10 year permits. At the end of the 10 years, the permits could be renewed.
Bundy only owns about 150 acres and leases or used to lease grazing rights. 150 acres is NOT enough land to raise 500 head of cattle that is why Bundy had to lease the larger tract. Once Bundy stopped paying his lease, he no longer had legal access to that land. Much like a renter who stops paying rent.
Now he is getting evicted or at least the cattle is being evicted from that land. Read carefully the statements made by Bundy and his family. He does not say that he owns the land... only that he has be grazing on that land for a long time. He admits that he stopped paying the BLM and gives the reason that the BLM was created after he started grazing. But the Department of the Interior Grazing Service was created by the Taylor Grazing act. And the Grazing Service was the forerunner to the BLM. In fact, the Grazing Service was combined with another department to form the BLM.
Notice how the daughter said “My dad did pay his grazing fees for years to the BLM until they were no longer using his fees to help him and to improve.” ... Also Bundy himself says that he fired the BLM. Well, the BLM does not work for him. The BLM works for the US Government and when he stopped paying his fees, he legally stopped receiving the value that was exchanged for those fees - the right to graze on US Government property.
The Bundy clan is putting out half truths and manipulating the press to attempt to save their cattle after loosing at least two and possibly four court rulings in this case. A key insight into this comes from how the daughter says the following: “So my dad just went on running his ranch ...”
It may be his “ranch” but he only owns 150 acres of that ranch and leases the rest of that ranch from someone else. That is a very common configuration out here in the west. The danger is that others, who do not know about these details are assuming that the federal government is somehow trying to prevent Bundy from using his own land ... and that is simply not the case.

Why don't they just give the illegal cattle an appearance ticket and a court date? That's what an illegal alien would get! And then even if you sent the cattle home, they'll just wander back and not be prosecuted!
I also heard the borders of the federal land were changed some years back to accommodate a Harry Reid friend. Hmm.. Where is Harry “illegal land deal” Reid in all of this?
