(CNN) -- A Chinese patrol ship looking for signs of Malaysia Airlines Flight 370 in the southern Indian Ocean discovered Saturday a pulse signal with a frequency of 37.5 kHz, state news agency Xinhua reported. "That is the standard beacon frequency" for both so-called black boxes -- the cockpit voice recorder and the flight data recorder, said Anish Patel, president of pinger manufacturer Dukane Seacom. "They're identical." But experts cautioned that no confirmation had been made that the signal was linked to the missing plane. "This could be a variety of things," said oceanographer Simon Boxall, who said the frequency is used by a variety of instruments. "We've had a lot of red herrings, hyperbole on this whole search," the lecturer in ocean and earth science at the University of Southampton told CNN. "I'd really like to see this data confirmed." He added, "It could be a false signal."

It is odd because it is an extremely rare event.
The cooperation is local politics. China has a navy and since there were so many Chinese on board, politics demands they enter the search. Ditto the USA except we would help out anyway because that’s what we do. The search came into Australian waters and they are therefore politically motivated too.
But over all, there are world navies that are at sea and they can just as well deploy to the search as cruise somewhere else. ditto aircraft
You are right, but the reason for MH370’s 15 minutes of fame is the dearth of info, and what little there was making a nuke-laden airplane bomb a leading theory.
Seeing is believing. If an expert is saying this could be all kinds of things, then I'm going with that.
Everyone has a vested interest in that plane going down in the Indian Ocean. They WANT it to have gone down in the Indian Ocean. They WANT us to believe it went down in the Indian Ocean whether they ever find it or not.
Unfound, it means ANY Boeing 777 is a potential lethal weapon so long as they remove all its markings/markers.
Photo taken on March 21, 2014 shows Chinese patrol ship Haixun 01 searching in souther India Ocean. Chinese patrol ship Haixun 01, searching for the missing Malaysian passenger jet MH370, detected a pulse signal with a frequency of 37.5kHz per second in southern Indian Ocean waters Saturday. A black box detector deployed by the Haixun 01 picked up the signal at around 25 degrees south latitude and 101 degrees east longtitude. It is yet to be established whether it is related to the missing jet.

when Joe Biden and Congresswomen Shelia find out, they will suggest we send a few Navy Seals and Corpsmen down there, tie a rope to the plane and pull it back up to the surface.
The plane is in Pakistan. Someone in China got paid and woosh....it disappeared.
If someone saw that the transponder was disabled, does that mean that someone tried to contact the plane and it did not respond.....And they did nothing??
My take, too. Someone made some big bucks. Plane had suitcase bombs aboard?? THAT’s why the interest??
Hank Johnson is concerned that the very heavy Boeing 777 could either cause an underwater earthquake and/or cause Australia to tip over if we don’t pull that 5000 pound plane out of the Spacific Ocean within 72 hours.

Horton Hears a Who
OK, who left the Wok on all day??
Really???
Will the blackbox tell us the name of the person at the controls when the plane went down???
Will it tell us who was at the controls when the plane was diverted???
Will it tell us what that illegal phone call to the pilot was all about just before taking off???
Will it tell us the name of the mystery woman who bought the SIM card for that phone??
All it is likely to tell is whether the plane ran out of fuel and fell from the sky at that point or whether the pilot sent it into the drink.
I wonder if CNN will interview the “Four Asian Pilots” who successfully landed a plane in San FRansisco, and get their thoughts about this mystery.
Could some group have been programming a ‘black box’ with data; for the past month and then dropped it in the ocean - to be ‘found’ and put an end to this drama?
Yes, especially since a lot of their technology was originally our technology.
I wonder if those binoculars are sold at Wal*Mart.
My thoughts also.
Constant acoustic pingers are put on white sharks and they ping for well over a year.
I tried to call a friend of mine this morning who is involved in that tagging to get an idea of how long the pingers last. He would know.
But I know from experience they ping well over a year because he puts the hydrophones out in the spring and gets pings in the summer onward until he pulls the hydrophones out in he winter to avoid them being lost to winter storms. -Tom
