Obamacare Will Also Cost You More On Veterinarian Visits

By now, we all know that the Affordable Care Act is anything but affordable. Health care and insurance premiums have skyrocketed and we are all facing $2,000-$4,000 in tax increases. The number of uninsured Americans is also climbing while the number of doctors practicing medicine is declining.

But did you know that the Affordable Car Act – aka Obamacare – will also cost you more when you take your pets to the vet?

According to the Heritage Foundation, a newly released IRS rule states that a 2.3% device tax will be levied on most medical devices before they leave the manufacturer. The rule states: [snip]

I just read about this in my little weekly newspaper.

A family, who is down and out....wrote that they can barely afford to keep their pet dog....and were thinking about bringing it to a shelter after the shock of the extra tax on their vet bill.

What next, Hussein?

I've been suggesting for at least a couple(?) of years that peeps should remain on VERY good relations with their local vet.

The time may come when a necessary script be written, or worse.

The premiums on my dogs’ health insurance just went up.

Obama hates dogs.

I was made aware of an inner city teacher who made it through her grueling day by taking *doggie-downer* pills.

“I’ve been suggesting for at least a couple(?) of years that peeps should remain on VERY good relations with their local vet.”

My vet bill more than doubled every year. When she suggested I get pet insurance I stopped taking my cat in for her regular shots and teeth cleaning. The out-of-pocket is what I’d paid before in cash. I don’t recall the total yearly bill now. I just hope she stays safe.

I’ve had cats last 20 years who have never seen a vet. When they pulled the insurance scam they lost me. (Incidentally, she went from driving an old Ford truck to a BMW. The vet, not the cat.)

I dumped the pet health care....couldn’t afford it....and so *little* was actually covered for each visut....not a particularly cost-effective insurance.

Just wait ‘til we have a catastrophic emergency...I’ll be eating these words. ;(

I just had my little pooch groomed at PetSmart and the price went up about $8 on the Top Dog fee.

My Trupanion covers 90% of everything except routine stuff like shots.

When Odin racked up $700 worth of cardio tests in one hour [he’s fine] we’d have been SOL without it.

We got $630 of it back within a week.

I really can’t afford it either but I’ll go without so they still have it.

[And now to wait for those who will call me crazy to chime in]

:)

My vet just fills out the necessary insurance papers and I file them.

He doesn’t charge me a penny more because I pay up front and then get reimbursed.

Yes, that is true. Some medicine that we had given to one of our cats jumped 10 fold in less than two months.

My Chaucer who's not little goes in several times a year. He loves being pampered. It costs about twice as much as I pay for a haircut for me.

I might rethink that doggie-spa expense.

“I’ve had cats last 20 years who have never seen a vet.”

Oregon has solved this problem. They have now MANDATED that your pet see the vet for an annual exam. If you bring your pet in for an emergency, but did not have it in for it’s annual, they are technically not allowed to treat it.

Of course, vets are not the !@#$% that politicians are. They will give the animal the necessary exam & then treat it. Our legislature also tried this with large animals. But people heard about it before it could be passed & set up such a ruckus they backed down. I wish us small pet owners had been aware.

Many vets have to know multiple biological systems and adding one more would not seem to be that big of a leap.
