Researchers have found we have an inbuilt ability to tell how intelligent a man is just by looking at them.
The team from the Czech Republic found people we unable to perform the same deduction on women.
The team admit they are baffled as to how we do it - and say it does not appear to be based on symmetry of the alignment of features.
Both men and women were able to accurately evaluate the intelligence of men by viewing facial photographs, they discovered.
'Faces that are perceived as highly intelligent are rather prolonged with a broader distance between the eyes, a larger nose, a slight upturn to the corners of the mouth, and a sharper, pointing, less rounded chin.
'By contrast, the perception of lower intelligence is associated with broader, more rounded faces with eyes closer to each other, a shorter nose, declining corners of the mouth, and a rounded and massive chin.

She’s saying that geography is important and should be taught. You just have to learn to listen.
I think your brother is the smart looking one.
Which guy is named “Daryl”?
There are some easily misunderstood statements in the article. Lots of people reading it will NOT actually read what is being said, and will read their own misinterpretation into the article. Face shape does NOT appear to predict intelligence!!
“’Our study revealed no relation between intelligence and either attractiveness or face shape.’”
That quote is what is important, and summarizes the data best. Researchers found that there is no measurable trait in the faces that seems to predict IQ, or any other measure of intelligence they used, but that raters were still able to significantly predict intelligence. The raters (falsely) attributed their perception of intelligence to certain facial features, but those features weren’t correlated with intelligence so there is some other factor besides facial geometry that they’re using to make accurate predictions.
Contrasted with:
‘Faces that are perceived as highly intelligent are rather prolonged with a broader distance between the eyes, a larger nose, a slight upturn to the corners of the mouth, and a sharper, pointing, less rounded chin.
‘By contrast, the perception of lower intelligence is associated with broader, more rounded faces with eyes closer to each other, a shorter nose, declining corners of the mouth, and a rounded and massive chin.’
There is a very important word here - PERCEPTION. The use of that word changes the meaning of those statements.
The researchers found that while people said faces with certain characteristics were seemingly more intelligent, the researchers actually delved into the data on the faces being rated and found that what the study participants PERCEIVED as intelligent features had no correlation with IQ or the other measures of intelligence that the researchers were using.
Even the study participants who SAID those features struck them as signs of intelligence rated some people with those features as “dumber” than some people without them.
The real data here is more interesting than the false assumption that face shape predicts intelligence. The researchers found that despite there being NO CORRELATION between face shape and IQ in the faces being rated, that the study participants were still able to discern which (male) participants had greater intelligence.
Yeah, well see the smart looking one ... oh, never mind!
One that points to Womans' intuition as having objective truth capabilities.
We men are so screwed (well actually not so much....)
Naw—the corners of Obama’s mouth turn down. That’s why he makes that prune face.
I can always tell when a woman has a lot of brains.
They usually won't date me.
That is one scary photo. Scariest I’ve seen in a long long time.
The other one.
“Sounds like an Inconvenient Truth. One that points to Womans’ intuition as having objective truth capabilities. We men are so screwed (well actually not so much....)”
Uhh, check your data and reevaluate. Both men and women in the study were good at predicting a man’s intelligence. Female intuition didn’t come into play.
It’s just that neither men nor women in the study could accurately judge a woman’s IQ based on an image.
As for the good judgment project, despite that article writing about a woman, the project is not gender biased in favor of women I don’t think. If I recall correctly (I’ve read some about the project over the last few years) there tend to be more men working on that project than women.
Perhaps, but the chairmanship of Malaysia Air is still within his grasp...
I can always tell the intelligence level of those attending Obama rallies by the “DUH” look on their face
Meh, none look more or less intelligent than the others to me.
Gee, what’s next, Phrenology?
So far, I've done good except for that night in Pittsburgh but that wasn't my fault, really.
I've found that that if you set your goals low they're easier to achieve which is better for your self esteem.
