Just had a very large violent quake here in So Cal. Scary.
Yup...the owner is not going to like what he sees...
HUGE?
I’m in Hollywood and didn’t feel it. So words like “huge” and “violent” went over my head.
There are huge and violence quakes but this wasn’t one of them.
and series...
You in CA? Earthquake insurance is very expensive and often nit offered.
My sister and nephew in LA sure felt it. She was out and didn’t feel the biggest one. He was home and did. Then when she was home she felt the smaller one that followed. Depends whether you are inside or out maybe? I have lived an earthquakeless existence so have no clue.

If I’m busy and walking around, I don’t feel ‘em.
Check out this twitter page, really shows how many after shocks. https://mobile.twitter.com/earthquakesLA
What epicenter was that one at? Landers?
I went thru the sylmar, Whittier narrows, and Northridge ones.
I was 30 miles away at the time for each.... and each of em were bad.
I guess that’s it. When the one after the biggest one came, she said it felt like the floor was going around in circles.
Wow. Now THAT's a quake. I've been in a bunch of 'em (Ca native), the Northridge one was really terrifying. But I can't even wrap my mind around a 9.2, not even!
I had a friend who was in that one -- she was just a kid, had a great story about it, and how folks responded to it.
What was that one like? Where were you, what were you doing? What kind of stuff happened? Please share!
Quite a few people in the east have felt rolling houses. A 5+ hit east of us in Cleveland in 1986 and you could feel the thing go rolling through from east to west. The 5.8 that hit near DC in 2011 was felt over a wide area. Big ones in the east are much less frequent but cover a much larger area.
New Madrid fault quake of 1811 showing magnitudes east of the Mississippi.
If this sucker hit today, it would be a horrible mess. Much worse than anything this country has ever seen. Assuming a 7.7 quake, deaths estimated at 3,500, injured 80,000, and 7 million homeless.

Yep. I was in the Loma Prieta earthquake. Anything under a 6 doesnt feel too big compared to that one.
Loma Prieta was the worst, but I have had the misfortune of being in every major earth quake except the one in the Pacific Northwest in recent times.
Big Bear was pretty bad too.
Finally a quake I was not in :-)
and I am in Afghanistan!
Move east. Rumor has it that entire place will slide into the ocean some day. Too bad, its a pretty state (except for the bigger cities)
I was 10 years old, home alone after school. Started out just like any other quake and about 10 - 15 seconds into it it sowed abit and shifted gears. You could see the waves traveling through the ground just like swells in the ocean. Trees were swaying side to side ang the plywood exterior of my dads house flapped like a birds wings I jumped I into thre Back of
a pickup truck. Road it down the Driveway . as a ten year old kid I thought it was pretty cool!!
“Hugh and Series.”
Naw! It’s mute and irrevalunt.
BE SAFE!!!!
Safe will get you killed
Crazy gets you home!
and I am 7 shades of batsh.. crazy, and really old, so I will make it home safe & sound...
Some day!
Thanks!
