No on could have predicted this!
As John McCain once said: "Make it 100(%)!"
This was predictable by anyone with brain. Didn’t prohibition teach us anything?
They could generate more revenue from a lower tax rate, but that would be against their religion.
Most smuggled product in the country.
So, how much does a pack of smuggled cigarettes compare to the current price of legal cigarettes?
Yep. However this is worse than Prohibition, I believe in the cigarette smuggling racket, Hezbollah and Hamas are big players. Instead of enriching your local hoodlum, our current stupidity is shoveling cash into the coffers of Islamic terrorists. Just great.
Not sure, but the price of a carton of cigarettes in KY, WV or NH has got to be significantly lower than a carton in New York City.
Next years headline....
57 % of millionaires leave NYC....
What’s a pack of Luckies go for in NYC now? I am guessing about $14 a pack...
SOLUTION: Nationalize cigarette sales.
I drive to PA for cigarettes and ammo. cigarettes are half the price of NY ammo has no background check/listing of suitable weapons and it’s 40 minutes away.
Sure, Princess Andy, I may live in NY, I shop in PA and Delaware. I pay almost zero in NY sales taxes...and there are more NY plates in PA and Delaware shopping malls than locals.
My wife and I are both smokers and here in OH, it cost about $60 for a carton.
Several years ago we bought a machine that single roles cigarettes. We buy loose cigarette tobacco from a local tobacco shop along with tubes (with filters). The tobacco cost about $11 and the tubes about $2 a box of 20. So, with a little time spent on the rolling machine (about 20 min. per carton) and less than $20, we get about three cartons.
And the tobacco is without preservatives and other government introduced junk.
I’m sure the Feds are hot on the trail of this and our cheap pleasure is doomed in the near future.
The sell the smuggled cigs for the state mandated minimum in stores all over NY. Smuggled is cheaper than buying wholesale in NY.

Totally proves that “legalizing” marijuana will eradicate all criminal activity that comes with marijuana. Just look at how taxing tobacco has solved all criminal activity stemming from it.
A pack of cigarettes in NYC is close to $12 per pack and more for loosies ($2.00 per stick)
Outside DeBlasio land a pack is $10.40
You can buy a carton of name brand for $48 in Delaware and $56 in PA.
The margin for cigs is 6% at state minimum. so at 10 per pack they buy them from the wholesalers at $9.35 per. Buy them out of state for half that and the state has hornswaggled the Indians into towing the line and their prices are only a $1.00 less per pack on the reservations.
