The American Medical Association is protesting an Obamacare provision it argues will leave doctors with the bill for up to two months of unpaid care.
The provision requires insurers to allow patients with federally-subsidized health insurance plans a 90-day grace period to pay their premiums before canceling the coverage. Insurers are on the hook for the first 30 days of care, if the customer never pays up, but doctors will be stuck without payment for any services between 30 and 90 days, until the coverage is canceled.
The American Medical Association was a strong supporter of Obamacare.
If a patient is being treated for a serious illness, that requires ongoing care, Dr. Ardis Dee Hoven, president of the AMA, said in a press release Wednesday. The physician is having to assume the financial risk for this. Thats the bottom line.
The AMA released new resources Wednesday for its member physicians, offering step-by-step help for minimizing risk, while admitting that the Obamacare rule could pose a significant financial risk for medical practices.
The doctors association spent $22 million lobbying for Obamacare to pass in 2010, the most of any health care organization, and has kept up their spending in the years since while the laws final regulations have been tinkered with.
The rules damaging effect on doctors especially those with private practices exemplifies the split between the AMAs lobbying ambitions and the outlook of the average doctors that do the work.
After Obamacares passage, just 13 percent of American physicians agreed with the AMAs support of the law, according to a survey from physician recruitment firm Jackson & Coker. Surveys have repeatedly found that doctors dont believe the law will let them help patients and make a living.

Doctor’s are being set up to be the fall guys...
Why would ANY doctor or insurance person hook up with this snake? Why would anyone think he’d do right by them?
Stockholm Syndrome? LOL! Idiots.
Tuesday, November 4, 2014... Be There
this is all adding up to become on huge burden for the democrax isn’t it.
Thank you
Wahh. Didn’t the AMA endorse Obamacare?
There is this interview out there, of the AMA president as of July 2013...Ardis Hoven, the new president of the American Medical Association, told me, in an interview conducted for C-Span’s Newsmakers, that her group has been in talks with the Obama administration and will do “whatever we can in our power” to promote Obamacare.
So,, suck it AMA!
Someone should explain to the AMA, or rather all of it’s members, that the right time to protest the contents of a bill that needs to pass in order to learn what’s in it is BEFORE it passes.
“Doctors are being set up to be the fall guys...”
Oh, puleeez-—the AMA was one of obama’s biggest a$$ kissers in the lead up to passage. They got what they wanted.(or didn’t want since they believed the LIAR in chief)
AMA endorses Senate healthcare reform bill
Affordable Care Act Supreme Court Decision Welcomed By American Medical Association
AMA drones should have thought of this when they were supporting Mocha Man and his POS legislation.....
Maybe the AMA will begin lobbying the Senate to get rid of Obamacare and all its creators and supporters...
“The American Medical Association has just sent a letter to Charlie Rangel enthusiastically endorsing the House Democratic health care bill, and urging”
You just can’t make this stuff up.
“Doctors are being set up to be the fall guys...”
Certainly not a new approach by this administration.
Yesterday Holders DOJ slapped a one billion dollar fine on TOYOTA for making concealing and misleading statements about the accelerator problems that some of Toyotas autos were having, awhile back.
If the same DOJ standard was applied to the Obamanation Administration, what should the fine be?
Millions of Insurance harmed Americans want to know.
We have to pass it to find out what's in it...
Another doctor pointed out that's the working definition of a stool sample.
Methinks some of these doctors aren't too bright...
The AMA is a political organization, the leadership of which includes many who never or seldom see patients. They are in no way representative of US doctors.
Dear AMA,
You wanted it, now you can choke on it. We all foretold of the continual messes we are seeing, but you figured you would remain part of the favored elite class.
I hope your entire membership considers cutting their expenses by not paying you dues.
Many of the local chapters opposed the bill but the national board supported it.
My wife’s cousin is a past president of the dc chapter. He did work for two gop members of the house in analyzing the bill.
He and others actively opposed the bill and spoke against it to national AMA board members. To no avail.
Doctors who failed to resign from the AMA at or before the start of their pro-ObamaCare lobbying get no sympathy from me. The AMA pushed this atrocity on decent people because it would increase the power of AMA leaders at the expense of real doctors, real patients, and other real Americans, and doctors who otherwise prefer to coast through the political aspect of their lives had a moral obligation to remove themselves from the AMA immediately. They even took an Oath to do so: “First, do no harm.”
This should encourage doctors to give nice cash discounts.
