On March 9th NBC's Bob Costas dismissed criticism of his having armed guards while disparaging "gun culture" by saying his guards were NBC and NFL security, not "personal" bodyguards.
He did this while being interviewed by Fox News's Howard Kurtz, who brought up Costas's December 2012 halftime criticism of "the NFL's gun culture."
Kurtz said, "You were accused of injecting politics into halftime, and Fox News's Greg Gutfeld said you were 'a hypocritical buffoon' because you're in New York, and you're surrounded by armed guards, and you don't have to worry about safety."

What in the hell does Bob Costas do anymore anyway? He’s probably making controversial comments to get attention with the goal of staying ‘relevant’. He sure as hell isn’t calling any football games, or hosting a pregame or halftime show....
I took his statements to Kurtz just the other way. I think what he was trying to say was that his problem isn’t with guns, or with people owning guns. He was trying to point out a problem in the NFL with a culture (I think he meant specifically GANGS) where guns were part of that unhealthy life. He was contrasting that diseased culture with the country at large.
It was a very different angle than I’d heard before.
Everyone else insults my intelligence, Bob, and you might as well join the parade.
Protection for me, but not for thee.
These liberal snakes do not understand that everybody has right to life and liberty, which means the right to defend themselves. Firearms are great equalizers, so for the sake of equality, the right to bear arm is every free person’s human right.
Hey Bob, I’m my own body guard.
I feel the same about Howard Kurtz and his show. He and the show are nothing but a cover for the blatant liberalism on FNC.
I gagged on that show. It was bad enough that I woke up at 4 am. Everything else was infomercial...eat this, invest that, cook with this.
In retrospect, I should have gone with the jet blender or whatever it’s called.
Yes, it does, Bob.
Yes, it absolutely does make you a hypocrite, Bob! My life deserves as much protection as yours.
Costas has lately been on a crusade to define himself as a “serious” journalist by taking predictably liberal views on various social issues as they intersect with sports. No doubt congratulating himself on his “courage”, he demonstrates the opposite - slavish conformity to questionable liberal pieties.
He is sort of correct. He was a hypocrite long before he got armed guards, so the armed guards don’t MAKE HIM a hypocrite.
LOL.
Makes sense to me. ;^)
See you're not as important as Bob Costas so you have no need to arm yourself.../ S
Remember 911 is minutes away when seconds count...
You’re only denying it because it’s true, weasel!
Well, Bob, it sort of does. You are not middle class. Middle class people, poor too, can’t afford a team of armed security guards to protect them, on or off the job. They can’t send their kids to the posh private schools with armed guards. So they purchase guns to protect their own, themselves.
The guard that is hired to protect you today goes home tonight. He has a wife and some kids, and his house isn’t as secure as yours. Shouldn’t he use his service weapon if he had an intruder break in? Or is there a lock on his gun case that says “for protection of Mr. Costas only”?
LOL.
So, security is okay for him but not for us? He clearly thinks he’s better than us “peasants”.
The KING DWEEB of sportscasters.
Really there is no need to argue about this. Just look at it like lawn care.
Rich folks like Mr Costas are able to hire their armed protection.
The rest of us do it ourselves.
And I got no problem with that.
Costas has no character, he’s a weasel. Probably got pinkeye from bukakke.
