While discussing federal spending and transportation funding, Sen. Barbara Boxer (D-Calif.) said “there is absolutely no way we’re going to cut spending.”

Boxer was discussing the Highway Trust Fund with members of the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (AASHTO) in Washington on Feb. 26th, when she addressed various tax increases that may be used to raise money for the program.

“I don’t see support for raising the gas tax and there is absolutely no way we’re going to cut spending, so it’s going to have to be a creative way to fund this in reality,” Boxer said. …

Right . . . private-sector ownership/operation and funding via tolls is just out of the question, of course?

If I recall, the $80B was supposed to deal with infrastructure/shovel ready jobs. Obviously it didn’t go to the highways.

That’s the kind of deal agreed to by Paul Ryan and Patty Murray, so no wonder Boxer can be so sure of herself. Of course, the Defense Dept. will be cut massively, but there will be plenty of special interest spending to lap that up.

Here’s a ‘creative way’ Boxer is looking at:
http://www.truckinginfo.com/channel/fuel-smarts/news/story/2014/02/fet-exemption-for-glider-kitted-trucks-might-end-irs-indicates.aspx

The Internal Revenue Service is casting its eyes on the growing glider-kitting business and seems set to begin collecting the 12% federal excise tax that most of the vehicles have been exempt from.
The National Truck Equipment Association and the National Trailer Dealers Association have each issued an alert to members, warning those in the glider business that they might soon have to begin collecting the FET from customers. The alerts stem from a recent IRS letter saying that its previous guidance should no longer be followed

"If I recall, the $80B was supposed to deal with infrastructure/shovel ready jobs. Obviously it didn’t go to the highways."

Actually, you are misremembering. It was $800 billion.

A hundred billion here, a hundred billion there, and pretty soon you're talking real money! It's a travesty that so much of it was misspent.

The EXEMPT, hated (weighed and found wanting) US CONGRESS
wants more money for their jets, and their own LUXURY.

Should they be denied? Have they EVER been?

"there is absolutely no way we’re going to cut spending"

The lib motto, it should be under the Jackass symbol.

The Democrat party

"There is absolutely no way we’re going to cut spending!"

Brainless Babs, dear, why don’t you just introduce legislation for what you really want? Do away with all money, and force the peons to cater to all of your desires. After all, they should be happy providing you your luxury lifestyle—as long as you feed them enough gruel and water, and keep them in heated barns—right?

Isn’t that what socialism is all about? The very few live in luxury, at the expense of the masses?

Cutting spending would cut her skim.

No way is that happening.
