(Seattle's socialist Kshama) Sawant: City should take over taxi business

SEATTLE, Wash. — Seattle city councilmember Kshama Sawant advocates a bold idea for ending the dispute between taxi companies and rideshare businesses - she says the city should take over the taxi business.

Taxi drivers feel they’ll be crushed by competiton, despite the limits on rideshare companies that city council members voted to approve last night.

Because rideshare companies use high-tech service to lure customers away from taxis, councilmember Sawant says the city should step in.

“The real solution to this problem is for the city to have the app, the smartphone app and the dispatch system and to employ taxi drivers as unionized living wage workers,” Sawant told KIRO-7’s Natasha Chen.

Actually this is kind of humorous.

A large share of Seattle’s taxi business is operated by Indian Sikh immigrants.

At least half of the taxi business is operated by foreign born immigrants.

Now, an Indian Hindu immigrant is trying to confiscate their livelihood.

And 90% of them vote Democrat!

Gee, A BOLD idea ?

Since when is it a bold idea for government to take over private businesses..?

That idea is as old as 1917...and has failed spectacularly for almost a hundred years...

But... the Marxist keep trying...

All over the country, even around the world, ride share companies like Uber are putting taxis out of business. They have to adapt or die. Government ownership - what a laugh.

Decades ago, NYC decided to go into the bookie business, Off Track Betting. Despite having a legalized monopoly on one of man’s basic vices, they LOST money..

So high-tech service is intrinsically evil?

Just trying to follow the logic here.

OK. Not really.

Hey, ho, Microsoft has got to go! Washington doesn't need the tax revenue, does it?

To the unions, yes. This is a classic case of a new technology making some older way of doing things obsolete. The socialist knee-jerk is to crush the innovation and institutionally protect the "workers".

I hope Seattle passes everything that this bozo wants. They deserve it.

“Because rideshare companies use high-tech service to lure customers away from taxis, councilmember Sawant says the city should step in.”

I thought luring away business (by attractive offers) was called competition. It is a good thing.

Of course, once taxi service is socialized, it will be illegal to lure away customers by offering them better. As any good economist will tell you, when there is a monopoly, the monopolist will do as little for as possible, and charge as much as he thinks that he can. Prices rise, and service declines, or becomes scarce if prices are fixed. For now, I won’t even mention the potential — nay, the certainty — for corruption which characterizes state-run monopolies.

Having the government run services is not a “bold” suggestion: it is a proposal to adopt a policy which has failed throughout history.

My opinion of Seattle has suffered a fatal blow. How can people elect a jerk who would suggest such a thin? She belongs in Bangladesh, because I don’t think that even her home country (India) would want he back..

———crushed by competiton-——

Restored by rape and robbery.

Once a criminal learns the way to rape the female riders or rob them, the free ride utopia will disappear.

So much of socialism makes sense when you classify it as a mental illness. Not as a single illness, but as a whole group of them, covered in a thick sauce of the seven deadly sins.

In a more reasoned country, they are like life draining parasites, leeches and tapeworms. And when they have total control they make a nation like North Korea. And in their delusion it is paradise. Nobody but a mentally ill person could have such a twisted notion of things.

The real solution is for the taxi companies to buy “apps, smartphone app’s, and dispatch systems” so they are competitive.

When I was a kid there was a classmate who liked to eat paste. He always threw up but he couldn’t stop. Socialists seem to work the same way; their solutions never work but they simply can’t help themselves

Didn’t the government also fail at running a brothel that had been taken by the IRS in Nevada ?
