Armed men have seized the government buildings in the capital of the Ukraines Crimea region and hoisted a Russian flag over a barricade.
The men occupying the parliament building in the regional capital, Simferopol, early on Thursday did not come out to voice any demands. They wore black and orange ribbons, a Russian symbol of the victory in World War II. The men also put up a sign saying Crimea is Russia.
They threw a flash grenade in response to a journalists questions. Phone calls to regions legislature rang unanswered, and its website was down.

“They threw a flash grenade in response to a
journalists questions.”
“Ive always wanted to do that.”
You should reconsider. That’s what liberals (communist)
want to do when they are asked real and tough questions.
So if you want to see the media get flash-banged just
make them ask the Obama some real questions.
Turkey might have something to say about that. If Turkey objects, it could limit Russian access to the Bosporus, locking the Russian fleet OUT of the Med. & effectively neutering the Russian naval base at Sevastopol. That would be a disaster for Russian power projection in the area & limit Russia's material support of Syria.
Putin already has Sevastopol & Bosporus access. Annexing the whole of Crimea is unnecessary, internationally risky, & a potential domestic problem, too.
One more line to Kerry-Obama slap down, again.
“they get slapped down but they get up again because they
are weak fools”.
There used to be an animated gif. that had Ahmadinejad
punching Obama down continuously. Wonder what happened to it?
well... what’s good for the goose...
now lets see how the “new” Ukrainian government is when mobs are taking over buildings.
Turkey has its own problems, its currency is crashing and its leadership is being challenged.
Well, here we go, Figured it would be something like this :/
I kinda like these guys..
Did the men get Sec. Kerry’s permission to do this? If not, boy, are they in trouble now!
EU & US gave billions of dollars to the opposition, and lo and behold, armed neo-Nazi thugs with weapons seized power in Kiev. First things the new guys did was ban other languages (including Russian and Hungarian, note that Russia is spoken by about 30% of the population as its primary tongue) and legalize the use of Nazi symbols.
So Ruskies in, EU & US out? Is that correct?
Those automatic weapons and flash grenades did not fall off a cabbage truck. Most likely this is a Russian backed op.
You are treading down a slippery slope backing scum like Putin.
Mucho thanks for the ping.
Ironic. Ukrainian protesters drove out the President and now they have to deal with Crimean protesters. Russia wants the Ukraine to stay out of Crimea’s business so Russia can get involved in Crimea’s business.
I agree 1000%.
Latvia is almost 30% ethnic Russian and a NATO country. Would you be ok with Putin moving in there also?
I don’t agree with Putin moving anywhere outside of Russia. What’s your point?
Crimea has changed hands so many times in the last 500+ years it is doubtful who holds any valid claim to Crimea.
The Russians there, as well as in Ukraine, are the descendants of Soviet colonizers sent to administer & control client countries. The Baltic states have the same problem. These people are as unappreciated as American settlers were to the American Indian. Rightly or wrongly, these people are in exactly the same position as the descendants of European colonizers in Africa. We see what their lot has been - ostracization & abuse.
I'm not surprised the neo-nazis were involved the overthrow, nor surprised that the bumbling West may have financed their participation, though I doubt you could have kept them out of it, financing or not.
I think it is safe to say that there is NO government in Ukraine right now, so there is no one that can legally ban languages or restrict graffiti & symbols of any kind. Certainly, there is no one to enforce such restrictions.
Civil war seems to be the direction the country is heading.
Crimea river
How do you say ‘anschluss’ in Russian?
What is currently called ‘Ukraine’ is not actually located in the Ukraine region. What was once called ‘the Ukraine’ is now entirely within Russia and the country that is called Ukraine is now composed of what used to be Polish territory and territory that was ceded to Ukraine by the USSR in compensation for territory that the USSR seized from Ukraine.
Now the Russians want to take back what they gave away and you’re siding with them.
Nice.
