Editorial cartoons often aren't pretty, to paraphrase Steve Martin's observation about the perils of comedy. But one found in the Opinion section of today's New York Times is downright ugly.
The cartoon, alluding to this year's brutal winter, suggests U.S. Department of Commerce "Strategies for Dealing With the 2014 Icicle Surplus." Among them are using icicles as "locally sourced hydration devices," "temporary doorsteps," and "brainteasers for dogs." Then comes a suggestion that one immediately looks at again, in disgust and disbelief -- icicles can also be used as "self-destructing sabers for dispatching climate-change deniers." (Entire cartoon shown after the jump)
As far as cartoonists at the New York Times are concerned, if you are skeptical about climate change, you should die. Preferably in a violent manner. Turns out the Gray Lady's got a mean streak. But you already knew that.
or an icicle.....
Climate Change is real, and it is happening all the time, no denying that. The question is, do the activities of mankind have much to do with that change?
Sorry, the jury is still out on that, and there is no definitive answer yet. There is no solid evidence that anthropogenic Climate Change (some sort of sacred and unchallenged True Belief) even exists, and to what extent it could or would actually affect anything more than over a very small localized area. The Butterfly Effect is a logical inconsistency.
This suggestion is that the warmers are indeed the climate Nazis.
Of course there is climate change, but it is caused by the Sun as it has for billions of years.
If you analyze the entire cartoon, it may be a ‘jab’ (pun intentional, of course) at the Obozo Administration. After all, the title starts off with: “U.S. DEPARTMENT OF COMMERCE Strategies...”, implying that these are the ‘suggestions’ of the administration................
Ditto and bump.
Never underestimate the passions of dedicated cultists, and warming fanatics are among the very worst of them. They aren’t above inquisitions, torture and public executions. They have been so overwhelmed with faux science, contrived climate models, and political pressure, they’ve achieved transcendental perceptions of the weather that we deniers don’t have. Warming fanatics will kill to maintain their spiritual experience.
The Climate Change Inquisition has a problem dealing with heretics (deniers) as the traditional burning at the stake would add CO2 to the atmosphere.
Well, at least it isn’t a cartoon depicting a monkey being shot after being identified as the author of the stimulus bill. /s
Liberals’ first instinct is to engage in name calling. Anyone who challenges them on any topic is instantly labeled with a derogatory name or pejorative (e.g., racist, denier, birther, homophobe, uncaring, greedy, etc.).
Their tactics are obvious and predictable: attack, marginalize and belittle your opponents. Repeat the attacks on a daily basis and get your allies in the media to echo them.
Well, those tactics are obvious and predictable to anyone who is not a clueless Republican politician. ;)
That’s not even a cartoon.
It looks like cut and paste from clip art.
nully likes!
The 'denier' makes a valid point about the icicles and lack of warming, and instead of an intelligent response, he gets stabbed.
Also what about the cash for clunkers parody last panel: "Note, as part of the cash for clunkers program, you can redeem icicles for money. . . mail to US Government Icicle Stimulus . . .
They can begin with me if they feel inclined. Then, there will be at least one less that they were before.
Let me simplify it for you.
-Globall warming is a danger to our future.
-Human carbon emissions need to be drastically reduced to ‘save our future’.
-Ergo, to save our future the population needs to be drastically reduced.
Globall warming is a call for genocide.
I’ll bring the popcorn.
I have read here in the last few months, the LA Crimes will not post a letter or column explaining why Gorebull Warming is not happening.
The cartoon looks like something Mad magazine or National Lampoon would put out. I found it funny. It illustrates the absurdity of Global Warming zealots and makes them look ridiculous IMO.
