(CNN) – Sarah Palin rallied Wednesday behind Texas attorney general Greg Abbott, endorsing the Republican gubernatorial hopeful and defending Abbott for appearing on the campaign trail this week with controversial rocker Ted Nugent.
"If he is good enough for Ted Nugent, he is good enough for me!" the former Alaska governor wrote on Facebook.
Nugent, a fierce gun rights activist who's known for making outlandish comments about President Obama, campaigned with Abbott at two events Monday. Democrats pointed to some of Nugent's past controversial remarks in an effort to discredit Abbott.
The campaign for Abbott, however, acknowledged it was simply inviting Nugent to help turn out the base during early voting, which began Monday.
Abbott lacks a major GOP opponent in the March 4 primary.
In the same Facebook post, which marked her first endorsements for 2014 GOP primaries, she encouraged voters to support Katrina Pierson, who's challenging nine-term Republican Rep. Pete Sessions.
"Katrina Pierson is an emerging leader and important voice for the future of the grassroots conservative movement," the 2008 GOP vice presidential nominee wrote.
Pierson, a conservative activist with tea party support, is a strong backer of Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas. Cruz's father, Rafael Cruz, has helped campaign for Pierson, who lags far behind Sessions in campaign cash.
The congressman appeared to brush off Pierson's primary challenge, telling CNN earlier this month on Capitol Hill that "these things happen."
Asked if he was worried about the challenge, Sessions repeated that "these things happen."
Sessions represents the Lone Star State's 32nd congressional district, a solidly Republican district located around North Dallas.
CNN's Deirdre Walsh, Paul Steinhauser, Peter Hamby and Dana Bash contributed to this report.

Onyx, Palin Ping Please!
Good deal—Palin wants to flush another RINO out of the bowl. And it would be GREAT to be rid of Über RINO Pete Sessions.
Ted is controversial? Really? Does he know that?
Great news. The local paper in Harrisburg has been ripping Uncle Ted after interviews he gave while at an NRA sportsmens show a week ago. Of course they rip him after he is gone. I had no problems with anything he said.
Abbott did not back down and disown Nugent after the lib media went on their usual onslaught. Palin herself gave Nugent props in her mention of him in her posting in support of Abbott.
Such a stark contrast to the usual cowering I’ve come to associate with the GOP. Palin, Nugent, Abbott... these are the kind of people I would want to share the same foxhole with. And add Cruz too, while you’re at it!
!
Yep, I'm getting tired of people apologizing when they shouldn't. Instead of apologizing, Abbot and Palin are doubling down. I'm sick of spineless wussies.
Lets; see, what would be an outlandish comment about President Obama? Oh, I know, "President Obama loves his country and loves the Constitution." Now THAT is an outlandish comment!
Yup, I remember it well.
T'was back in '77 and Ted took a moment after Cat Scratch Fever and went into a diatribe and making outlandish comments about some 16 year old half-black guy in Hawaii that was Choomin' his way to the White House.
Made Ted famous, it did.
This is what you get when 20 year olds run a newsroom
HA! HA! HA!!!
Ted Nugent - makes “Outlandish” comments about poor barry the pretender???
AWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW.... pooooooor, POOOOOOR barry..
Nugent simply speaks the TRUTH in plain ENGLISH.
Tea Party Charter Rules:
Inform your would be supporters and endorsers NOT to say STUPID, Damaging things!!!
Whew, for a minute there I thought she was backing a challenger for JEFF Sessions.
Unfortunately, Breitbart is kneecapping candidates like Matt Bevin. A particularly loathsome journalist called Michael Patrick Laehy. Why does Breitbart allow Tea Party hating jerks to write for them?
GO SARAH!
GO ABBOTT!
Now THIS is a Global Business Tip!
“Now THIS is a Global Business Tip!”
Right!
