Ever wonder what a "Loss Prevention Manager" of a "Risk Management Division" of Arlington County, Va does for a living? You didn't? That's what I thought. Well apparently, he dresses up in a suit, tie and overcoat, puts on his ear muffs and then tells us how to shovel snow. Yes, that's right, how to shovel snow. Oh, you think you already know how to shovel snow and don't need a high salaried public employee to tell you how to do it "properly?". . well, think again. His knowledge of how to shovel snow properly is impressive; probably representing hours of "loss prevention" research by, no doubt, an enourmous staff. God, I'm so grateful for having a Risk Manager like this fellow. . .what would we do without him and the government to tell us how to shovel snow!!?? (Watch the video for a good laugh, by the way. . .in case you didn't already know it. . we are doomed).
The government is an imitation of the movie Brazil.
And all the while, I stand there calmly, giving her helpful hints, like "Chop the carrots finer," "You shouldn't sauté the onions so long," and "Why don't you pre-warm the plates?"
And all I get are hostile looks!
Doesn't she understand that I'm a highly-paid consultant? That my good advice is worth its weight in gold?

I have a better solution. Get a snowblower. I can drink coffee and smoke like a jenny before going out and it doesn’t bother me. :)
Three people died shoveling snow the other day in the DC/Maryland area so this guy is not doing his job properly.

I have a pretty good snow blower but it didn’t work for this type of snow. It was too “wet” and got clogged up. It happened to many neighbors in Maryland too. Good suggestion if it is fine light snow, but not the enormous snow storm that we just had.
On the one hand, Mr. Manager tells me I have to get clearance from a physician, and “Shouldn’t be so quick to go outside”, on the other my local public works division put an orange envelope in my mailbox telling me that I didn’t shovel my frontage sidewalk from “side to side” and didn’t use salt or sand within 24 hours, and next time I’ll be find $25 to $200.
I can’t wait for the spring, summer and fall videos on how to fertilize your lawn, mow the grass, and rake leaves. With maybe a bonus feature on how to cook hot dogs. lol

Hire the mexican waitng with his brethren in front of the 7-11. Oh wait, they’re gone after the weather gets cold. Guess it is work that most Mexicans won’t do.
Also, if you regulate the "load" of snow, it doesn't pack and stick. If taking a full width swath, then speed regulates the load, and if you take half a bite instead of a more full one, the snow won't pack as easily.
LOL! What would we dummies out here do without BIG government watching out for us?
‘Wet’ snow? Out West we got ‘dry’ snow with icy topping and having flooding.
Doesn’t bode well for the folks in such areas (skipping the obvious controversy over how houses got built in flood-prone areas).
My money: Bet they say the impending flooding was ‘unexpected’. Or, as the weather/climate folks said 4 days ago about our weather forecast, “Melt-off will have ‘little impact’...”...
