In a speech on Wednesday, Sen. Rand Paul outlined his views on immigration reform. Acknowledging the need for some legalization process for the 12 million illegal immigrants already here, Paul stressed that border security had to come first. Under Paul's plan, legalization wouldn't even be considered by Congress until the border was secured. This contrasts sharply with the approach outlined this week by Sen. Rubio, who said legalization had to come first.
Paul's plan would direct the Border Patrol and an Inspector General to certify to Congress when the border is secure. To verify that the border is secure, the report would have to be approved by Congress. Once that is accomplished, currently illegal immigrants could apply for probationary work visas.
This process of legalization, however, wouldn't happen all at once for the 12 million illegal immigrants. Each year, a bi-partisan panel would determine the number of work visas available. Congress would also have to annually review and re-certify that the border remained secure...

That’ll work.
I just get amused at the blanket “wall” wailings that totally disregard the fact that the border is a river in Texas.
One that we can’t afford to wall off.
Secure the border! Import Aligators to the Rio Grand River! Get the Gator Boys to ship them down!
A few years ago we wondered about all this wall and immigration business.
First, we went to Arizona and drove as near to the border as we could get from Gillette to Nogales. It is mile after mile of pretty much nothing. For much of the way there is barbwire. There could be a wall, but real law enforcement with lots of officers and punishment would be much better.
Another year, we drove down the Rio Grande from Presidio Texas to Brownsville. Part of that is Big Bend and you can’t to close to the river. The thought of a wall along the river is ludicrous.
“Secure the border first”?
Good luck with that.
Rafted down that part a couple of times.
Santa Elena canyon is amazing.

Yep
So what is the status of enforcement and deportation during this period of securing the border? This is more sophistry from Paul. And securing the border only solves part of the problem. 40% of the lawbreakers came here legally and overstayed their visas.
So why do we need another law? Securing the border is and has been a government responsibility. And we have laws on enforcement and deportation. Shouldn’t those meet the same kind of test as border security?
I am all FOR completely sealing the borders first and foremost. After that is accomplished, then I’d be willing to discuss a means of identifying, rounding up, and humanely repatriating these invaders back into Mexico.

TREASON - continuous, in-your-face, agency-abetted, representative-enabled, media-complicit, agenda-driven, ongoing...
How much is "massive?" Illegal aliens cost us well over $100 billion a year not to mention the societal costs of drugs that are smuggled across the border or the national security concerns of terrorists coming thru the border.
For the "Dream Kids" who through no fault on their own as children are here...Give them temporary visa and three years to apply for and win citizenship...if not put on a bus back to whatever hell hole their parents come from
Amnesty? Why should we provide amnesty to these so-called children? Right now Obama's backdoor amnesty allows "children" up to the age of 30 to apply and they could have been brought here up till the age of 16. They are given work permits and allowed to compete against Americans for jobs.
Once these estimated 1.8 million Dreamers are legalized and made citizens, they can sponsor their relatives to come here including siblings, parents, cousins, etc. And what do we do with the parents of the Dreamers? Deport them? How can we do that if we want to keep families together?
And will this Dreamer amnesty be forever, i.e, a rolling amnesty? When you set the precedent that any illegal alien coming here with children can expect their children to gain legalization and citizenship, then you will get many more coming here. We already have 300,000 to 400,000 anchor babies born in this country every year. One out of every ten children born in this country has an illegal alien parent. Most of the costs are paid by Medicaid for these new instant citizens who also become eligible for food stamps, welfare payments, etc.
Legalizing the Dreamers is a very bad idea. This "no fault of their own" is pure nonsense. We put US citizen parents in jail when they commit crimes. Their children must bear the consequences of their actions. And these "poor children" enjoy all the benefits of living in one of the richest countries in the world. Taxpayer paid educations, medical care, clean water, dependable electricity, etc. These children are not victims, they are winners who have a far better life than most of the billions of children in the world. When you reward something, you get more of it.
We do need better border and interior security. We do NOT need legalization for the current crop of illegals.
We do not need to becaome a police state and round these illegals up. We need to cut off freebies to them and we do need to deport them as we encounter them.
PING
No sane person is talking about the construction of a wall along the entire border. Physical barriers are just ways to reduce the amount of people needed to secure the border. It will be a combination of physical barriers, sensors, cameras, drones, etc.
FLB: Put up a wall!
HG: In the middle of the river?

No just build the fence that Rep Duncan Hunter wanted..
with the 2 fence design like the one in Israel...
that Congress voted for and with the money the House Appropriations agreed on...
years ago..
You remember, part of the fence was already built in the San Diego area before 2008 and Willard used it for his campaign as though it was all his idea..
Because Congressman Duncan was his Conservative opponent for the GOP nomination...
that fence..
In the middle of the river? Or on our side?
On our side you say?
Interesting. That pretty much cedes the whole river to the Mexicans.
Tell me, do, what role the river plays in the economics of the region.
You surely have considered this, since you seem willing to gift the Mexicans with it.
Why does our government refuse to secure our borders?
Senator Rubio?
Who is he?
Wasn't he considered important at one time for about 5 minutes?
You will never secure the border without first getting rid of an administration that refuses to enforce existing laws, much less the Constitution. Why impeachment proceedings for President Obama and Attorney General Holder have not been filed remains a mystery or perhaps is the result of the “race card” and white guilt. I’m tired of discussing issues such as these and would like to find a person or organization willing to take action to either save the United States or take steps for an equitable distribution of states. Today we see the “commerce clause” used to spread immoral and corrupt behavior that originates on the West Coast or Northeast. All of this backed by a legal system of political appointees who fail to honor their pledge to support the Constitution. Enough is enough!
No dear Humble..
the part of the border which is land...
and there are hundreds of miles of it..
