Upholding a lower court decision, a federal appeals court has unanimously ruled that North Carolina legislation permitting choose life license plates is unconstitutional.
Because the legislation does not permit pro-abortion license messages, the state engaged in blatant viewpoint discrimination squarely at odds with the First Amendment, the court ruled.
I am naturally disappointed at the appeals court ruling prohibiting the issuance of the Choose Life license plate in North Carolina, said Bishop Peter Jugis of Charlotte. Since 30 states and the District of Columbia already allow these plates, I hope that a way can be found, either through the legislature or the courts, for North Carolinians to express themselves in this way.

Are bumper stickers illegal, too?
NAMBLA must have been a complainant in the case, because they couldn’t get their message emblazoned on one, too.
OK, then allow the other side “kill unborn babies” license plates.
Here we go again. WHO THE HELL RUNS THIS COUNTRY, THE PEOPLE OR THESE ELITISTS???
Then North Carolina should just offer a "Choose Death" plate for the pro-aborts.
The federal government thumbs its nose at the states - the states should just do the same and ignore this ruling.
Try ‘Choose Allah’ and see what happens
We HAVE TO start getting smart about these things. They chould have gone in there with both.
easy .offer a pro-death plate
This is getting to the point of insanity, these judges should be removed for just be stupid.
It appears that federal judges are now the law makers rulers of the states.
The governor of the state of NC should just say “no”.
What is the Federal judge going to do about it?
Congress can pass a law making such license plates legal and can also forbid any Federal court from ruling on the matter.
There has to be pushback.
It seems every time the people speak, a Fed black robe overturns them.
Clearly, this Democrat court does not understand the word “optional”.
It is just a back-door action disguised under legality that seeks to suppress, oppress and censor individual freedom.
The ruler’s minions need to be in prison contemplating their errant ways.
So in Florida we have all kinds of license plates. Pro kids, pro manatee, pro reef, pro wild life. I guess that means they have to allow license plate that are anti manatee and anti wild life to make the others legal.
Anyone up for some fun legal challenges and fun license plates?
It’s a license plate, for cripesake. You’re not going to change anyones mind because of what’s on a flippin’ license plate!
There’s no constitutional provision that government provide all points of view of a political argument. If that was the case, virtually all public schools and universities would currently be in violation of the 1st Amendment.
Ping.
Am certain that soon, any speech not approved by the federal courts with be illegal. Also am certain that soon, any church refusing to marry homosexuals will be shuttered. Interesting times ....
