Just so it doesn’t cut into the corn ethanol yields.
Has anyone looked out the window lately?
Has anyone looked out the window lately?
.... Most of us who have lived in Kalifornia for a few decades know that the main portion of this drought is due to the brain trust of Environmental activists forcing the diverting of the main water supply used for irrigation away from the desert farmlands and cities and divert it to the delta wetlands to save a few species fish .... some of which no longer exist because they all died out 70-80 years ago.
.... Yup .... Most of this water shortage is self inflicted. But the Kalifornia Braintrust of activists will never admit it!
Bump
I have been urging everyone -
lettuce, cabbage/broccoli/kale, carrots, radishes.
Get the seeds. Put them in the ground. THEY ACTUALLY GROW!!!
The good news is that none of this will contribute to inflation. Because as the government knows food and energy prices fluctuate so much that they can safely be eliminated from the core inflation measure.
Why we need a fair percentage of our crops grown outside the southwest. Crops can fail anywhere and having diverse sources means they’re unlikely to fail everywhere.
In 2012 an early thaw followed by a hard freeze followed by extreme drought wiped out most Michigan fruit crops but the pacific northwest had a bumper year. Prices were up but not wildly so.
We still need to grow there but regional crop diversity helps alleviate pressure in bad years.
Last week, Chopped meat (93%) was $4.59/ lb.
Went to a brunch - their “Salisbury Steak” was mostly breading.
Any news on fukashima and its effects on the pacific ocean AKA weather cycles?, no? ok lets move on.............
I guess the cows that escaped the Wisconsin snows for the slavery of pens in California are having second thoughts
At least there’s no general inflation causing prices to rise....oh, wait.
Self-imposed drought. The snail darter fishy is more important than the people and water for the people and crops...Kalifornia!
The way to solve this problem is for a conservative president to create a *federal* desalination plant in central California, something the Californians have refused to do for environmental reasons.
Powered by natural gas, it would then pipeline in huge amounts of fresh water to the Central Valley, with diversion to southern California if there was adequate water in the CV.
I live in Fresno County. I don’t mind the plantings along the freeways, and the vegetation seems to be chosen to need less water. But almost every road within Fresno has trees/plantings in the meridian that need water and upkeep. Looks great BUT I think is a waste of water and manpower.
Central Cal. is being hammered with the “Pineapple Express” maybe up to 10 inches by Monday; its a start.
I don’t know why they aren’t doing desalinization for fix their water problems.
Its raining in the Central Valley right now.
(Be afraid, be very afraid)
