‘SCIENCE GUY’ BILL NYE VS. CREATIONIST KEN HAM: WHO WILL WIN ....DEBATE OVER DARWINIAN EVOLUTION?
Blaze ^ | 2-4-14 | Billy Hallowell

Posted on 02/04/2014 10:12:04 AM PST by Oliviaforever

There’s been no shortage of controversy surrounding Tuesday’s debate between “Science Guy” Bill Nye and creationist Ken Ham. While some evolutionary theorists and atheists have chastised Nye for his willingness to publicly face-off against Ham, the former PBS host hasn’t been swayed by their arguments.

Instead, Nye has defended his decision to appear at the event, which will be held at the Creation Museum in Petersburg, Ky. — and in an op-ed published on CNN.com Monday, Ham, too, reiterated his own personal quest to use the debate to give creationism a more public voice.

Neither will win.

When has a Creation vs. Evolution argument ever been settled to everyone’s satisfaction?

Yup, people believe what they WANT to believe and then force the evidence to fit their world view, but then they also add mockery, scoffing, arrogance, ridicule, rudeness, and insults to the mix and feel that makes them superior somehow.

Superior aholes perhaps....

Yeah, I'm a hypocrite =)

“DEBATE OVER DARWINIAN EVOLUTION”

Actually there is no such thing as “Darwinian Evolution”. Darwin observed different species. He was a follower of Lamarck who advanced the theory that people's behavior would influence the genetic characteristics of their descendants. For example, Lamarck postulated that the blacksmith who did hard physical labor would have muscular children. This is also known as Use and Disuse Evolution and soft evolution. Darwin's famous book, On the Origin of the Species, was published in 1859.

Since then, the experiments of first Gregor Mendel and then others have provided a knowledge of how genetics actually works. In the theories of evolution, genetic mutations later replaced soft evolution which combined with natural selection was said to cause cross species evolution. This is the theory evolutionists use today.

We know now that genetic mutations could not possibly have caused things like the evolution of the human eye and other advances. Therefore, evolutionists compare their theories to the literal reading of the Book of Genesis, not to modern science.

You are given the false choice; either every part of the Book of Genesis is true and the earth is less than 5000 years old or else evolution is true. This is the state of debate on evolution today.

How do you get an engineering degree without learning science? Science type classes were a pretty big part of my engineering degree.

If Nye states he has an Engineering degree, he is most likely lying. See my post#40. Nye is a far left fraud.

I have multiple engineering degrees -- science and advanced mathematics were a very big part of the curriculum.

And still the Earth is more than 4000 years old.
See how debating this is stupid.

I’m not saying YOU are stupid or your faith is wrong.
The debate is pointless since Faith can never be proven.

If you’ve never been to Israel, I suggest you find a way to go visit. The people are very nice and you will see strange things which confirm scripture and others which say “Ok that’s impossible”.

They call it “The Probable, The Possible and The Impossible tour”

For instance, much of the Probable is in Galilee. You will see the town Peter lived, where Jesus did the sermon on the mount. Even local Jews believe this happened near these locations.

The Garden of Gethsemane is also highly considered Probable.
The description matches portions of Scripture and it has been there a long time.

On the Impossible side is many (but not all) of the Churches built in the Old City on Religious sites. Most were built in 1400 AD based on rumor and Religious tradition.

If Nye states he has an Engineering degree, he is most likely lying.

I don't see Cornell University allowing guest lectures and other work at their university by a guy falsly claiming to receiving his mechanical engineering degree from them. Carl Sagan was one of his professors.

For instance, I don’t know how long one of God’s days is. How does eternal existence measure “time” before our earth rotated on an axis once every 24 hours?

2 Peter 3:8
But, beloved, be not ignorant of this one thing, that one day is with the Lord as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day.

Mr Ham believes the world was created about 6000 not 4000 years ago. Noah’s flood was around 4000 years ago.

No. The book of Genesis was written by Moses inspired by the Holy Spirit during a period of approximately 1450 to 1410 B.C.

The stories in Genesis start long before Moses. History suggests that the first writing of Genesis (or what would become part of Genesis was 700BC-ish. Moses certainly knew the stories and likely taught them, as generations of Hebrews before him had.

I do believe the Bible is the Word of God, written to transcend all levels of knowledge, culture and language. But the story of creation had a very early audience. Simplicity, symbolism and parable was a logical teaching tool (in my opinion). Had God tried to explain gravity to Hebrews in 10,000 BC, he may have lost his audience early.

The most basic enzymes required for dna replication and protein synthesis are themselves made from a vast number of nucleotides.

In other words, in order to start the molecular processes involved in “evolution” you need an already mutated replicator.

But evolution doesn’t have anything to say about how this mutated replicator got there in the first place.

Yes, you can go see for yourself at the Creation Museum or in other YEC Science research.

and most in the scientific community believe the creation of life will be a reality. .so given that at some point there will be created life

Most...in the scientific community believe....? Let's not go there. :o)

I get your point and have been loosely following the effort to move amino acids into TNA, RNA and finally DNA strands to prove that conditions and happenstance to naturally create life could have existed. But they have been stuck for a while now (time is relative, I know). The science does oddly follow the evolution science in that there are suspicious holes that provide falsifiable evidence in the study of fossils. Amino Acids do exist in nature (and space). But science is missing the link between the theoretical TNA (suspected precursor to RNA) and the amino acid. How did amino acids "evolve" into something that evolved into DNA that provided a replicatable cell structure?

QUOTE: For instance, I don’t know how long one of God’s days is.

FWIW, In Genesis, it plainly states "And there was evening, and there was morning, the 'Nth' day" 6 times. If the day was longer than 24 hours, say 1 year (or a billion years, as some silly people suggest), for instance, that means that plants on day 3, and birds on day 4, and land animals on day 6 had an awfully long night!

Exodus 20:11 plainly says he created the heavens and the earth, the sea, and all that is in them, and rested on the seventh day. This was to be the model for the week, and the reason for the Sabbath. Interpreting a day as anything longer than 24 hours, or one revolution of the earth, is an unnecessary compromise with science so called, and implies that Genesis is deceptive or even erroneous. We all get to choose what we believe, and we get held accountable for it.

Regarding what happened before the first day, nothing, for there was no time, not as we know it. That's why it's called the beginning, where God created time (beginning), space (heavens) and matter (earth) first, and then made everything else from there. After he made light, the night/day clock began, and has counted more than 2 million days since it started.

QUOYE: "Nobody will win, no minds will be changed."

I concur. Only hardcore believers on either side will watch it, and their minds are already made up.

QUOTE: "I also believe the Bible is silent on what he was up to before our creation."

for the first six days of time, He was creating time, the heavens, the earth, and all that in them is. We were the pinnacle of his creative work, and he rested after that.

Actually, mankind, per the Bible is approximately 6,000-7,000 years old, not 4,000 years old. Jesus never said, "Oh, BTW, that Adam and Eve thing? Wrong! Those dates are REALLY off!" Instead, He said in Matthew 5:18, "For assuredly, I say to you, till heaven and earth pass away, one jot or one tittle will by no means pass from the law till all is fulfilled." In 2 Timothy 3:16, Paul writes, 'All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness'.

Jesus believed that the scriptures were true. The Apostles believed that Jesus is God the Son, the second person of the Trinity. As a Christian, I also believe this. God is defined as omnipotent, omnipresent and omniscient; and incapable of lying by His nature. Old Testament cannon was established in the 1st century BC, therefore each synagogue had the same scrolls (or at least some of them) and did not uses non-canonical scrolls. What Jesus and the disciples read at various synagogues were therefore, the same. Since Jesus (God the Son) cannot lie and did not correct anything from the Old Testament, I have to believe that it is true.

If there is one error in the Bible, it cannot be 'God-breathed', so therefore, one error makes it is worthless. Likewise, if Jesus either lied about the truth of the OT, or misunderstood it, then by definition, He cannot be God and our hope is lost, Christian belief is wrong and we, all people, have no hope of salvation and the whole Bible needs to be thrown out.

I don’t believe Nye has any serious engineering or science background.

He got his Bachelor of Science degree from Cornell in 1977.

Probably from the Humanities side. (hence, weak)

If you follow Nye, he spouts ALL the leftist points on all matters.

Nye has about much credibility in Science matters as Boehner does concerning our Constitution -- lol.
