On Sept. 11, 2001, while a hijacked plane was still unaccounted for, the CIA headquarters was evacuated.
But like several officers and analysts in the building, John Rizzo, one of the Agency's top attorneys at the time, didn't move. Instead, took out a yellow legal pad and began drafting the legal justifications for what he had already predicted would be a "full-scale assault on al Qaeda [which would] employ all means necessary to prevent any further attacks on the homeland."
... But it was down to Rizzo to decide how far American interrogators could go, and his decision would affect the way America would conduct its War on Terror for years.
Rizzo said he considered the "nightmare scenario" in which another attack strikes the homeland and Zubaydah "gleefully tells his CIA handlers he knew all about it."
"In the final analysis, I could not countenance the thought of having to live with that," he writes.

I agree with you 100%.
The plot centered around aliens having invaded planet earth, and the populace was being brainwashed by big billboard sized signs.
You had to have special glasses to see the signs and aliens (otherwise the aliens looked like normal humans).
Wish we had some of those glasses. I suggest the above is what Obama really looks like all the time.
How in the wide wide world of sports did a ridiculous dork like that become president!?!
You can be nice to the terrorists. I will not.

>> “WE came, WE saw, HE DIED!!!”
In that exact order?
pilots/aircrew/SPEC-OPS undergo it in SERE training.
the L$M can kiss my arse
Well why don’t you have a buddy do it to you or someone you love like your mom or your kid a few times and if you still wouldn’t call it torture then I’ll freely concede the point.
I reiterate that I support it 100% but pretending it’s not torture is silly semantics. It is and so is sleep deprivation and forced sitting in uncombable positions and other similar non-permanently harmful techniques. Torturing these pigs for live-saving information is 100% justified an in my opinion, legal. I would do worse than waterboard them, I’d go as far as penis removal. “We can still reattach it if you talk NOW”.
Pinging some people to see what they think.
They Live, and we’re the only ones wearing the Sunglasses.
My old Tagline...
Hey, I like it. Good one...
He says, not torture.
And sorry but neither are the other things you mention.
To say they are is like saying being leered at is being raped. Or having loaf is being starved.
We do no service when we make definitions overly broad.
The Movie was “They Live”. Directed by John Carpenter and starring Roddy Piper.
They filmed some scenes in the Parking Structure of the L.A. Bank of America Data Center where I used to work.
Unfortunately it’s true, that’s the problem.
It’s kind of like living in Zombieland, but we can’t actually kill the Zombies that are screwing everything up.
A day or two before the SOTU address, I had this dream that seemed to last about 8-10 seconds, during which Obama busted out the most stupid juvenile impersonations during his address.
It was surreal. You talk about a 8-10 second moment to absolutely destroy your public persona, that was it. He looked far worse than this picture.
Cool.
After all this time debating this issue is similar to debated the firing of General McArther, an topic earlier today. Its history book stuff.
But I recall that by 2007 and 2008 Bush and Cheney's policies were polling toxic, especially Iraq.
But no matter how many times Dems would call it ‘Immoral torture’, the water-boarding of terrorists to get time critic info remained popular, in fact I recall a poll in Bush second term saying that the majority supported using torture to stop a terrorist attack.
Wasn't it a short term crisis response that ended early on?
Is the Obama drone policy more compassionate?
