(CNN) -- The White House has secured commitments from some of the nation's largest companies for a plan to boost hiring of the long-term unemployed.
"What we have done is to gather together 300 companies, just to start with, including, some of the top 50 companies in the country, companies like Walmart, and Apple, Ford and others, to say let's establish best practices," President Barack Obama told CNN Chief Washington Correspondent Jake Tapper in an exclusive interview.
"Because they've been unemployed ... so long, folks are looking at that gap in the resume and they're weeding them out before these folks even get a chance for an interview," said Obama.

How about that gap in your resume between birth...and..say January 30th 2014.... Barry?
It’s called “co-opting” the private sector.
Sam Walton and Steve Jobs are rolling over in their graves.
Eh? I thought these days Apple was Jobs less...
>>The nation’s unemployment rate fell to 6.7% in December, but the drop came mainly from workers leaving the labor force.>>
Huh? The drop always excludes those who haven’t worked for an extended time so that the unemployment rate always looks less bad then it really is.
Just pay them to stay home... Oh wait we already do that.
Yippee! We’re all gonna be Fry Cooks and Wal-Mart Greeters!
What an @sshat.
LOL!
the DIpper....has never even been a SQUEEGEE MAN!
In this environment employers should not be focused solely on the gap, legislation or a ‘telephone call’ from Zero should not be required. Was is in the late 90’s????
Was it the result of this?
Valerie Jarrett Orders Companies To Start Hiring Or Else

This is less significant than a fart.
Just 6 months into Ohio’s $55M welfare to work program it is found only 257 have found jobs and only 2 are still employed after 90 days.
I just read within the last week where Walmart is laying off 2500 employees. If that’s so, how are they going to help in this latest crap?
I think these people talk this trash to make it look like they are trying to help, and they aren’t doing anything.
If they wanted to work they’d find something within the 99 weeks. Once someone has been idle that long they’ve forgotten how to work let alone the technical details of their job.
They are going to hire more workers to replace them: two 29 hour employees for each 40 hour employee would be my guess.
Obama to top 300 companies: Start hiring the long-term unemployed
President Barack Obama announced that he will convene a meeting of top executives from some of the countrys top companies to agree upon a set of hiring principles he says will benefit the long-term unemployed.
What we have done is to gather together 300 companies, just to start with, including, some of the top 50 companies in the country, companies like Walmart, and Apple, Ford and others, to say, Lets establish best practices, Obama told CNN host Jake Tapper in an interview excerpt aired on Thursday. Do not screen people out of the hiring process just because theyve been out of work for a long time.
Does this include Americans? Apple wants Illegal Alien Amnesty and H1B Visas...and Obama expects them to hire Americans?
This is called a dog and pony show. It’s just talk to make everybody think he’s doing something.
