Y’all staying home today?
They better hurry to get out there and shovel it before it melts.
It did NOT come SUDDENLY! Not one bit. Weather forecasters were telling people at least up to the night before.
The fact is and the problem was that authorities and institutions sat on their fat duffs until at least 1 or 2 PM, when it was far to late to be going anyway.
And, when they finally acted, the did it at once - and the roads clogged and clogged. Meanwhile the snow dumped and dumped. No wonder that people are still sitting in their cars this morning.
Frigid females fear flocking traffic. They give up and crash
OMG!! 1” TO 2” SNOW!!! As a Minnesotan, I feel sooo sorry for you... No I don’t. :D
I’m in upstate NY. Temps are rough but we still go out. Roads aren’t too bad. Of course, we know how to drive.
Here in SE TN we knew we were in for snow..
when we do get snow its usually gone by noon..
This time its still here...
it was about 30 here for a high yesterday and in the low teens last night..
its going to be 8 tonight..
our snow will be around a few days..
frozen solid but still SNOW...
good thing I moved my car down to the road yesterday morning...
My driveway is still covered in about 3, 4 inches and probably frozen ..
the snowplow came down my road yesterday and it looks like they laid salt..the road is slush..
but at least I didn’t lose power and I can get out if needed..
Lose power ???
Oh noez...I might have missed the SOTU...
Actually would that have been such a bad thing ???
:)
damn that global warming...it’s a pesky little creature...turning on and off like a light bulb...where’s Al Gore - he’ll write a book and make everything ok again...
Only got an inch in western VA (just east of the Blue Ridge). Usually as soon as it snows here, it starts to melt, but not this one. Roads are covered and there won’t be much thawing going on until at least noon, I expect. High temp will be about 30. Then by late afternoon, it’s all going to refreeze. Some trucks and SUV’s are out and about, but that’s about it.
Good news is, after today, daytime temps are forecast to be well above freezing for a couple of weeks.
But Joe Bastardi thinks that Feb. could be rough as well, so we’re not totally out of the woods yet. You can catch Joe’s weekly report at weatherbell.com.
I flew out of Atlanta yesterday morning before the snow hit. The locals and the media heads were all abuzz about the weather to arrive.
As an ex-northerner I just gotta laugh.
1-3 inches???
Here we wouldn’t have even checked for school cancellations in the morning
Damn’d globull warming...
I just heard on the radio that we had a 17 car pileup in town yesterday...
must have been a lot of those Northerners from Michigan etc who moved down here and don’t know how to drive in snow ...
:)
Atlanta simply cannot handle ANY snow. Not even a dusting, which this was.
Wasn’t the snow, it was the ice. Snow melted on warm roads, the roads cooled, the water froze, whole state became a skating rink.
What the heck are your guidelines???
Atlanta is not the only place having major problems. Chattanooga is bad. This article explains how it happened: http://www.timesfreepress.com/news/2014/jan/29/one-huge-mess-surprise-snow-storm-paralyzes/?local
I live in Atlanta. All the weather forecasts were for a dusting of snow. The forecasts shifted starting yesterday morning. EVERYONE let people/kids go around 1-2 pm and it just became gridlock. I was fortunate and it only took me 3 hours to get home. A guy that works for me left at 1:00 and it took him two hours to get to his kids school. Then traffic became gridlocked and he had to abandon his car and walk the final four miles home and he got home at 10:45 last night. A coworkers wife left downtown at noon and left her car at 11:00 last night and went to a hotel that was taking people in.
We just are not prepared for this weather because it just doesn’t happen that often. The impact of this is that schools will be very gunshy and close based in a forecast. Northerners will laugh but it’s better than this disaster.
Here is a great story!
