Democrats will take control of the Virginia Senate now that a recount in Hampton Roads has found Lynwood Lewis the winner of a special election.
Lewis, who until now has served in the House of Delegates, beat Republican Wayne Coleman by 11 votes out of 23,000 votes cast.
The State Board of Elections says the final totals are 10,203 votes for Lewis to 10,192 votes for Coleman in the district that covers Accomack, Mathews and Northampton counties and the cities of Norfolk and Virginia Beach.
Coleman has called Lewis to concede the race.
Lewis had been initially declared the winner of the Jan. 7 special election by just nine votes.
When Lewis is sworn in, it will create an even 20-20 split between Republicans and Democrats in the Senate. Democrats have the tie-breaking vote thanks to Lt. Gov. Ralph Northam, whose Senate seat Lewis will fill.
Republicans had control of the chamber during the last two years due to the tie- breaking vote of then-Lt. Gov. Bill Bolling.
The GOP has controlled the Senate since inauguration day on Jan. 11 because Northam and new Attorney General Mark Herring had to resign their Senate seats to take statewide office.
Democrat Jennifer Wexton has already been sworn into Herring's seat representing parts of Loudoun and Fairfax counties.
Lewis joining the Senate will not change any of the votes that have been taken so far this session while Republicans have been in control.

Yep. Sure they hold the House but it doesn’t matter. That will even shift in time. My old home State has gone to the Dark Side.
Isnt it funny how democrats always seem to win those recounts?
+++++++++++
He also won the first published results before the recount was taken.
I completely agree with your analysis. Despite the good fight, those are pretty much the only “safe” states. It’s a radically changing Nation. As I say from time to time, I’m glad I’m so old. There are just not enough of us remaining to stop it.
Look for plenty of vote fraud to take place from the Dims this November.
Well, to be “fair” (something foreign to a lib) the recount only changed 2 votes and didn’t change the result. Only 2 votes is, quite frankly, pretty amazing to me.
I fear the entire country is no longer safe. If Obama is not stopped, within the next three years, he will have created a permanent Rat majority with the collusion of Boehner and the US will become a Marxist peoples Republic and no opposition by any state will be tolerated.
U bin reedin my a boubt payG?
“Virginia is toast.”
Yep.
It doesn’t get any redder than Oklahoma.
I feel bad now, judging the libs and whatnot.
That’s just 1/2 of 1/3 of the government. We know from the DC GOP that means they have nothing and have to do whatever the Rats say. So we’re told.
“We don’t win every election but we always win the close ones.” (anon)
Virginia joins her liberal sister Maryland. They can hold hands and swirl down the crapper together.
Though it would’ve been great to take one of these elections, in both cases, the GOP candidates were underdogs. The Coleman-Lewis race district included Newport News, which is rapidly becoming the Peninsula’s Blackistan. Coleman damned near pulled it off.
The recounts always stop when the dem wins.
