Pensioners with cancer are being written off as too old to treat, campaigners said yesterday.
They cited figures showing survival rates for British patients aged 75 and over are among the worst in Europe.
Young lung cancer sufferers are only 10 per cent more likely to die within five years than their continental counterparts.
But pensioners with the disease have 44 per cent less chance of survival.
The figure for stomach cancer – at 45 per cent – is even worse.

I DID baulk at all the shots I needed to live and work in the middle east, but I hate, loathe, detest, deplore and otherwise DON'T like needles. We even needed a polio re-vaccination to work in the middle east.
It was worth it though.
In all my decades and decades of life I have never met any doctor, nurse, orderly or any other medical personnel who "get their jollies hurting someone" and would would (will) be the same kind of person who will populate the ‘decision panels.'
HOWEVER, you seem to have met those people. I HOPE you didn't have to trust your health to them. Sickening. May they all ROT in hell.

If you think the sweet and trustworthy doctors and nurses you’ve met who’ve been treating you for years will be the ones making medical decisions you haven’t been paying attention to the whole obamacare debacle at all.
You will never meet or even know the people who will decide whether or not you are worthy of any medical treatment. Even an aspirin.
The sweet and trustworthy doctors who’ve been your health custodians all your life? They won’t have any say in the matter.
Drones with the attitude of Sebelius ‘some people live, some people die’ will be making those decisions. People who seek employment in those particular jobs because they love control over other people.
NO, I would not.
I would "dispatch" nicely by dying in my sleep, at home, in my own bed, from heart failure when I am VERY old.
But, it doesn't really matter to me how I die. This life is so very, very SHORT. It's ETERNITY that I am really preparing for. That lasts forever and I don't want to end up in a HOT place, thankew. I want to end up with our good Lord.
Sounds like you've convinced yourself how things are done, nothing and no one, especially you, can to anything about it.
My family actually DID make their own decisions about things.
*I was there when the doctors asked my husband what he wanted to do. He told them and it all happened like he wanted.
The same with my father and mother. They died at home in bed, like they wanted to.
**My father had long time heart problems from WWII malaria.
***My mother died at 94; her heart just finally stopped.
The only one who died suddenly was my sister...of a brain aneurysm, like my maternal grandmother died. There is no predicting aneurysms. They both died quite suddenly.
I'm sorry that you have had to deal with such a sorry group of medical people. Terrible for you.
He didn't live more than a few months but, at least, those last months were pain free. I can remember him walking into the house saying, after his first dose of morphine: "The pain is gone."
My husband didn't last more than a few months. The cancer finally killed him. He knew from the get-go that it was terminal and he knew about how long he had left. The morphine made his last months pain-free, a true blessing.

Thanks, kackikat. He did pass in peace, at home, with me and his caregiver (and my mother). HE decided where he wanted to die, but the cancer decided the “when”—with as much morphine as he needed to deaden the pain.

I say again. The medical people who treat you will have nothing to do with these decisions. Neither will you. Should they provide care for you that hasn’t been approved by the medical decisions board (probably in DC) they will be censured. They have mortgage payments, car notes and student loans to repay.
The medical care you received in the past will be nothing like that which will be available in this country going forward.
I have had *excellent* care in this country. I have also lived in countries with socialized medicine, excellent care is few and far between there. ‘Excellent’ care will become a thing of the past here as well.
Why do you think Canadians come here for chemo and heart surgery? Because they weren’t ‘approved’ for it in Canada.
We will still be allowed to die at home if we choose this. We will not be able to ‘choose’ to get an epidural for labor and delivery, we will not be able to ‘choose’ to receive a mammogram after age 65, or kidney dialysis after age 60. If you break your hip at 65y and 1d you will have to crawl on a plane to another country to have that fixed.
Or, I suppose you could die of a broken hip at home. Plenty of older women did 100 years ago.
Only the politically connected will have modern health care. It will be circa 1900 for all the rest of us.

same with my grandma. but all i am saying is that some places have ‘policies’ to overdose the morphine to euthanize someone quikcer than they’d otherwise go.
The worse the system gets the worse the survival statistics get the more reason they have to deny treatment. Sounds like a death spiral.
If you ever have prostate cancer....head ASAP to a center that has the Gamma Ray Knife system....you get a high energy focused gamma ray that is accurate enough to take out the cancerous areas.....I know someone who had this treatment.
Today, CyberKnife Robotic-assisted Radiosurgery - a robotic radiation therapy that sounds like surgery, but isn't - is offering new hope for patients with localized prostate cancer. It also can be used to treat prostate cancer that has recurred after a radical prostatectomy or previous treatment. CyberKnife has been used to treat prostate cancer for about six years. Studies are showing CyberKnife treatment produces exceptionally good PSA responses with a low incidence of side effects
I wish there were a rule prohibiting all those above 75 sitting in the U.S. Senate.
I can tell you for a fact morphine does not relieve pain for me. It does make the wall crawl however.
Heroin may in fact actually work. A bill was introduced 20 years or so ago that would allow heroin to be used with cancer patients, but the democrats shot it down. Would have cost nothing because they would have used confiscated drugs.
The crime is the cost of the chemo. Hundred of Billions of tax dollars fund the War on Cancer research, and all they do is produce drugs that no one can afford.
