An explosion from a firecracker inside a moving Jeep blew off the driver's hand early Saturday and scattered debris over half a block in Spokane, prompting initial fears over the man's intent, police and neighbors said.
Witnesses saw a flash of light from inside the vehicle, a red Jeep with a gray top, as it drove down a residential street, police said.
Donald Wilkes, 61, said the blast rattled his house and woke up everyone inside. He initially thought someone had crashed into his parked truck, and when he ran outside, he found the street filled with smoke and the Jeep stopped just against his 6-foot-tall cedar fence.
"I looked around for something that got hit, but there was nothing," Wilkes said. "My son reached in to pull the keys out of the ignition and make sure he didn't go anywhere, and that's when we saw his hand was missing. It blew it right off at his wrist — they found part of it half a block away."
Wilkes' son, 30-year-old Nicholas, and another neighbor applied a tourniquet to the man's left arm. The man was stocky, estimated at about 28 to 30 years old, and coherent. But he wouldn't answer questions about what he had been doing, Wilkes said.
"All he did was look at my son and say, 'Oh God, oh God.' He looked like he was going to pass out," Wilkes said. "My main concern was why he was driving around my neighborhood at 1 in the morning with an explosive device."

A fool I knew put an M80 with fuse lit into a toilet at a burger joint and flushed it.
A few seconds later the toilet blew off of the floor, and a rumble cascaded through town as just about every manhole lid in town flew up.

When I was growing up M-80s were that strong and
even cherry bombs were nothing to sneeze at.
There is actually a pic on the internet
of some guy from Thailand who was holding an
M-80 in his mouth to light it and it went off,
turned his face inside out, horrible.
We blew up lots of stuff when I was a kid, never
got hurt but came close a couple of times, we used
to throw smoke bombs, had one go off in my hand once,
quit fooling around after that.
Wow.
Yeah, we respected M-80’s. But we had a lot of fun with them.
Too bad he didn’t hold it between his legs.
Critters like that shouldn’t breed.
One man’s firecracker is another mans stick of dynamite.
BTW, firecrackers are called that because they flash and make a loud cracking sound. When they do real damage, they are something that is not a firecracker.

Spokane Police Officers and SPD’s Explosive Disposal Unit responded to the scene along with ATF agents, AMR, and the Spokane Fire Department. Police cordoned off streets in the area due to the possibility there might be explosives in the Jeep. Additional explosives were found inside, and a bomb squad was on scene until 7 a.m. defusing them.

im gonna swag this and suggest lefty had a artillery simulator and the breeze at speed in said jeep accelerated the quick match from 4 seconds to 2 seconds….. he’s active or former GI. Anything else and he would be pissing out his ear for the rest of his life……
