TEA PARTY CONVENTION?
January 24, 2014 | Hostage

Posted on 01/24/2014 12:06:11 PM PST by Hostage

The Tea Party should hold their own convention one month prior to the GOP.

At first glance this seems symbolic only. But upon further reflection, some united statement coming out of a "Tea Party Convention" about who conservatives should vote for could have a chance to affect the eventual nominee. If we could at least get all conservatives voting for he same guy, it might reduce the dilution of votes that always get the establishment and media "their guy".

Thanks to Tenacious 1 for the above:

It can be done and I believe more easily than most would at first think.

For example, the Tea Party Convention could be a hybrid virtual convention where state TP delegations attend state convention centers with all conventions tied together in live video. No need to make one city the epicenter.

In addition to nominating a TP conservative a TP convention could adopt a platform.

Here’s why I think it’s a feasible and potent proposal:

The loose assemblage of Tea Party organizations has in the past and can again represent nearly 70 million Americans comprising conservatives, independents, libertarians, the blue collar Perot Bloc (more than 6 million) and Reagan democrats (more than 7 million). There will also be a significant bloc of voters that go with their perception of who will be a winner.

These numbers are possible and even probable given the grievances that most Americans have with both political parties today.

Republicans such as Sarah Palin, Ted Cruz, Mike Lee and other recent TP champions can attend both conventions. But their presence at the TP Convention one month before that of the GOP will empower them to be movers and shakers in the latter.

My own view above:

I’ve been floating the same idea for about a month now.

Tea party gets behind one in the beginning. Much easier to beat the GOPe that way.

maybe even send a GOPe ringer in too.

I believe its a good idea—lets put fome teeth in the Tea Party movement—That means money and unity. A Convention could do the trick—speakers, rallies, and a chance for US to pick the GOP standard bearer rather than the Vichy-Republicans and RINOs—NO more Mittens! No More McCains! No more Bushes! We need a new standards. Who should speak? That is easy: Sarah Palin #1, Rand Paul #2, Donald Trump #3, Col. West #4, Who should they rally behind? Lets see what washes out. Cruz? Newt? Lee? Trey? Walker? Hannity?

Yes, yes, yes!!!

I’ve been advocating this for about a year now.

There should be state-level conventions in advance of the primaries as well.

The idea: to get united behind a single candidate in each situation.

Yes, that is the challenge.

But resolving that and going this route is IMO critical.

With early, coordinated endorsement of a real conservative through the primaries—and having at least some level of national vote before the primaries to further ensure cohesive backing—key for 2016.

Then, if that doesn’t work, the tea party apparatus will be in place to challenge and replace the GOP in 2020.

2016 is the GOP’s last chance, and we owe it to give our coordinated best to take it back if we can. Given how the GOP is handcuffed when it comes to defending the sanctity of the voting booth, it may be just as well if it is replaced even if the tea party strategy manages to prevail in 2016. (How much better can it get for replacing the GOP than having a GOP/tea party president, senate and house at the time?)

The Tea Party had their first convention in 2010 at Nashville, which was attended by Palin.

Then in Aug of that year, Glenn Beck had his rally on the Wash Mall in DC and it drew a very large crowd of TPs, and Palin also attended

Do you understand the problem?

It is relatively easy to organize people or movements to be against something, but it is very difficult to organize people or movements to be for something. And since the Tea Party is a diverse group, it is easy even order to organize the tea partiers to be for something.

I can think of many many many things that the Tea party is for. I don’t even see a limit to the positive things the Tea party is for.

A Tea Party National Convention can certainly illuminate the positive things the Tea Party is for.

I will be back to start a list (have to pick up a child from school).

Right on. The MSM has denigrated term tea party. Instead of spending thousands of dollars and hours on a convention, use that money to get out the vote.....the conservative vote.

have a state convention here in California. There is a lot more support that is evident. Lot of us just kind of keep quiet, sort of. Need leaders and spokepersons of integrity.

The amorphous structure of the Tea Party is what prevents the state run media from unleashing Alinsky style tactics in the manner of fixing on a person, freezing that person and proceeding to destroy the person.

I agree. It's very difficult to decapitate a head that doesn't exist. The Tea Party is not a party at all. It is a movement, a group of Americans that have a belief in the same ideals and tested truths that come from some of the best minds that America has ever produced, the Founders.

It's also difficult to dismiss the Founders that Americans admire and the media know that. Otherwise they would be more forceful doing so.

These are not old and stale ideas but ideas that as you would agree are still relevant today. And it is up to us to make the connection between the events of today's world and the beliefs and policies of our Founders. Mentioning them by name for the less educated in American history. Let the media fight that.

Point out the lawlessness in our current government, the erosion of our God given Rights described by our Founders in the Constitution and the reason why they described these rights as God given. Government can not take them away.

Can someone post a picture of a convention floor overflowing with cats? Then need to add picture of a self-appointed “herder” attempting to herd the cats.

It'd be somthing like this, you say?

Good luck. If a candidate ever had someone say that they heard that someone said they heard someone else say that someone else had heard someone say that the candidate is pro-abortion, pro amnesty or pro-homo marriage, they will be vilified and trashed and our own ranks will destroy our own best chances.

Many think it is the hapless GPOe that has lost the ability to stand united for a good cause - I have years of evidence on FR that says we do exactly the same thing - make a lot of supportive noise, then fold like bend-over Barbie.

OH SURE!! This Democrat turned REPUBLICAN is the Candidate that the Illinois Tea Party is forcing down everyones throat for Governor!!

He is Rahm Emmanuels BEST FRIEND! Tea Party in Illinois is Worthless and has been Duped and bought off!

Fact: Rauner made all of his money giving thousands to Democrats in return for earning millions in managing union pension plans. He is a hypocrite on union issues.
Fact: Rauner is openly pro-abortion and cagey on the issue of gay marriage but says he supports same sex civil unions. Rich Miller of Capitol Fax predicts he will support gay marriage after the primary.
Fact: Rauner is Rahm’s best friend and has been his close political ally for decades. Rahm’s staff has made it clear he wants Rauner to win the governor’s office. One thing Rauner will be pushing through is Rahm’s casino.
Fact: Rahm got Rauner’s firm an FCC exemption to allow the SBC deal to go through - earning Rauner’s firm 1/2 billion in six months - using Rahm’s insider connections.
Fact: Rauner gave Democrat Ed Rendell thousands of dollars in his campaign for governor in Pennsylvania and when Rendell was elected, Rauner’s firm received millions in state pension fee business.
Fact: Rauner used his clout to get his daughter into Walter Payton Prep when she didn’t have the test scores she needed.
Fact: Rauner has given $500K to the Illinois Policy Institute. A Roeser employee said that Rauner has given $500K to Roeser. State Board of Election reports say that Rauner gave Roeser $30K just last fall alone.
Fact: Illinois Policy Institute’s Elizabeth Christie is Rauner’s co-finance chair along with Ron Gidwitz - who heavily funded Joe Walsh’s campaign in 2012.
Fact: Joe Walsh just had a town hall with Rauner and now John Tillman is having a joint appearance with Rauner. Walsh’s main radio sponsor - Dick Uihlein was also on Rauner’s advisory committee for governor and his heavily supporting his campaign. Uihlein is Tillman/Proft’s main donor - almost completely responsible for their funding.
Fact: Until last week, Tillman’s associate Bob Costello was the treasurer of Bruce Rauner’s term limits initiative
Fact: Rauner has also given money to for the Good of Illinois and Adam escorted Rauner to a pro-life dinner in Spring.
Fact: Self-proclaimed conservative leaders are selling out and confusing tea party members and not talking about his background and some of them are getting paid to do it.
Fact: Bruce Rauner is worse than a RINO - he’s Rahm Emanuel’s Democrat in the GOP race for governor.
Fact: Tea party conservatives should be very resentful, angry, and betrayed that these so-called “conservative” leaders are being well-paid to help Rahm’s pal Bruce Rauner win the nomination

Please set aside about an hour (from 8:45 - 10:00am) on Saturday, February 1st (a week from tomorrow) at the Pitstick Pavilion on Route 23 in Ottawa.

It WILL be worth it! The Bruce Rauner campaign has made arrangements for us to meet, greet and hear him at that time. As you may recall they had to cancel his scheduled appearance in November but have managed to fit us in on February 1st. This is no small accomplishment as they’re traveling the state and time is at a premium. I was in Oak Lawn two weeks ago this coming Monday for the event there and Bruce is someone you NEED to hear as his message is so different from what we’re used to.

For a few reasons you’re asked to NOT post this on Twitter, Facebook or any social media or public venue. However, we DO ask that you bring your friends, neighbors, family, acquaintances with if you can and ask them to honor that caveat. The race for Governor this year will determine whether Illinois (Madiganstan) continues down the horrible path it’s been on for decades or begins a much needed turnaround.

If you ask a question, kindly hold off on any follow-up inquiries till all who have questions have had a chance to ask theirs. Bruce will be on a pretty tight time schedule and we want to ensure that all have an opportunity to ask the question most important to them.
