The American obsession with sex has destroyed all innocent pleasures. People have been having saunas and whipping each other with birch twigs in icy climates for millennia, but it was not “homoeroticism” and was not even a lead up to homosexual behavior. I remember only a few decades ago in Spain that friends (two men, two women, etc.) used to walk around holding hands. Then suddenly this was interpreted as sexual. And now nobody would dare to do it.

This writer is an idiot, but a typical modern, Freudian idiot where everything is all about sex. (Although even Freud thought that homosexuality was the sign of an undeveloped personality.)

Think the reporter is more than just a bit biased, and eager to demonize his subjects?
“Why should the gay lifestyle be celebrated?” asked Georgy. “It is just disgusting. Gays should be killed,” he said, frowning. I said nothing. The already humid atmosphere became even closer. “They should be gassed,” he muttered, staring sulkily at the floor. He seemed to find the idea of homosexuality quite repulsive, even frightening.

I turned to Yuri, the Afghan war veteran. “We didn’t even know it existed when I was growing up in the Soviet Union,” he said. “Why would people want to do such a thing?” …

Where are all the Christian leaders in The USA on all these important Biblical Christian issues?

Seems to me that there is hardly any national Christian leader speaking on Biblical truths when it comes to Christian Social Issues.

Has everybody been brainwashed by Rick Warren,Joel Osteen and even the New Pope?

Show me a character from the Bible that ever played down our sins...You cant find one, Jesus never played down our sins either

Every one in Russia knows Eldar Ryazanov’s “The Irony Of Fate.”

Its one of the best Soviet era classics, renowned for its golden age Russian pop songs and the comedic complications of the lead character - who is put on his friends on the plane after leaving the beloved banya, lands in Leningrad.

He arrives at home so to speak but doesn’t realize the apartment in Leningrad is exactly the same as his apartment back in Moscow - on the same street and it fits with the same key!

Its worth the price of admission for the world-famous opening animated montage, too good not to miss! Its a love story and its still shown every New Years’ on Russian television. It has the same meaning for Russians as “Its A Wonderful Life” does for Americans!

...condemned by critics, who say it incites hatred...

No. Allowing homo "pride" parades while not giving permits for heterosexual pride parades ('cuz that would be mean and hateful!) incites hatred!!

The people of most countries are great people. It is their governments that suck. Look at ours.

This validation of a queer lifestyle, first reared its ugly head in Western Europe. But then it has grabbed hold here. I do not think fags should fear being beaten or killed but they need to go back in their respective closets. Their lifestyle is unnatural. And as such it should not be flaunted nor allowed to be treated as normal in the media.

Interesting. The author does not understand that because of the anti-homosexual stance of the culture, men are free to be intimate in other, friendship sorts of ways that have often been parts of being male in many western cultures.

The whole article is about gay sex, not Russia, not hunting, not saunas. They are just pretexts. This speaks to the depravity of its readership/audience: the English public.

Georgy had shown me photos of his three-year-old son dressed up, just like dad, head to toe in combat gear and pointing a toy gun. With growing trepidation, I ask the obvious question - what if your son was gay?

Obvious question? In the author's perverted psychosphere, perhaps. If I was that father, I would have hit him instantly and instinctively.

Why am I getting the impression that Russian men are more manly than Americans?

I suspect it's due to a harder lifestyle that's more geared toward survival than anything else.

As a side note, I have my eye on a PCP air rifle that just happens to be manufactured by a singular guy in Russia. It's called an "Edgun".........

Man, what I would do for a month long safari in a Russian hunting camp.

I mean, for real.

Alaska is the closest thing we have to that, and I’m betting the Rooskies still do things the right way!

Just ask the Nooge and how he got tangled up in DC fedgov regs that almost put him in jail.

Yea Redux, I like Russia more and more too.

And I’m an old cold war guy who lived and breathed “Hate the USSR.”

How is NOT promoting something the same as encouraging bigotry and hate for something? I don’t run around promoting single malt scotch, does this mean I don’t like it? I am so sick of liberals, victim groups, and homosexual militants.

>>>Yuri said our chatter had frightened off any game but he let me fire a few potshots with his formidable but fluffily-named hunting rifle, a Kalashnikov “Tigger”.

As the sun set we’d dined on a great caldron of peppery soup made with pike caught in one of the nearby lakes. They’d produced a slab of what Russians call “salo”, smoked pork fat which you eat raw, washed down with shots of vodka<<<

Tiger is not a Kalashnikov but a civilian version of Dragunov, re-barreled for better MOA with non-milspec civilian ammo. Salo is not smoked in Russia and Ukraine.

I find it interesting that this site does not allow comments for many of their articles, including this one. It is not uncommon for sites that push controversial points of view. I find it pervasive on sites pushing AGW, Homosexuality, and an anti-GMO perspective. Can’t seem to tolerate alternative points of view, and presenting facts rather than feelings or opinions generally gets you banned..
