Number of Able-Bodied Adults Without Dependents on Food Stamps Doubles
Breitbart ^ | Jan 17, 2014 | William Bigelow

Posted on 01/17/2014 11:38:30 PM PST by Innovative

The number of Able-Bodied Adults Without Dependents (ABAWDs) receiving food stamps zoomed from 1.7 million to 3.9 million between Fiscal Year 2007 and Fiscal Year 2010. In that same period, food stamp recipients in total grew from 26 million to nearly 40 million.

Spending on food stamps now totals somewhere around $80 billion, twice what the number was in Fiscal Year 2008.

Presently, the work waivers foisted on the states by Obama allow ABAWDs to receive food stamps indefinitely--without working or preparing for work.

My wife works at a supermarket here in MA. On average, more EBT cardholders have fancier purses (Coach and that flowery kind) and cel phones than non-EBT customers.

Fraud is rampant.

“...in this economy, I am not as prejudiced against people getting help putting food on their tables.”

Newbie since Jan. 2. Suspect liberal newbie. WE DON’T HAVE THE MONEY TO PAY $80 BILLION in food stamps every year and the amount of money spent that we don’t have will rise every year as long as no effort to work is left out of that law.

I recall a while ago a post from he who shall not be named, saying he lives only on his social security (from the United States of America). He was making the point that he had little money and he listed his expenses living on that island to show he could exist with just social security.

Words mean things. It appears he bounces between having just social security and having a lot of money because he sold US property. I’m thinking he doesn’t know the definition of the word, “truth”.

“EBT cardholders have fancier purses (Coach and that flowery kind)...”

Since you mentioned fancier purses:
Here in Texas we have western ladies purses - big and they are covered with fancy cowboy designs and are leather and cost a hundred dollars and up and you'd be lucky to find a leather one for a hundred dollars. They are heavy due to being made of leather and being that big.

I didn't want a pure that heavy and I would not spend that much money on a purse. I now have a beautiful ladies cowboy purse. I saw the most beautiful one I have ever seen in a muted pink with a large turquoise stone on the front and clear sparkling stones around the edge of the purse and around the turquoise stone.

I went in WALGREENS that is across the street from me, and saw that beautiful purse among others on a display case. I went over there and thought this purse would be hundreds of dollars and I would never buy it.

It looks like it is leather, but it isn't. It's made of a rather soft plastic that has been treated to look like leather. I couldn't tell the difference except this purse is lighter than leather. It was $40. I thought if I wanted until Wednesday which is senior day at that drug store, I would get it ten percent off that price, except it was the only one there like that and if I waited, it wouldn't be there when Wednesday rolled around as this was Saturday.

The clerk came over and I've been in that store so much, she is familiar with me. I told her I wanted that purse and was afraid to wait until senior day to get it. She said in a quiet voice, she would give me the senior discount that day. I now have this purse paying in the thirties for it.

If you saw me in a store, you would think I was Miss Gotrocks because I have this Texas cowboy beautiful purse.

I would bet the purses you wife sees with these EBT people are the real leather ones - I can't afford that and they can't eat that expensive purse. Extra money I have after paying bills is mainly in long term food storage.

My favorite one is, he has “cut all ties to the land of his birth”, but still uses his sister’s Left Coast address to collect his SS checks, and make other straw purchases.

"It only shows that you are not a happy camper in Obozoville."

This says a lot about ol' Alex's deranged state of mind. Despite the problems that need to be fixed, and the internal threats we face, most FReepers in general, and we manger dawgs specifically, still see our nation as the United States of America, the greatest and freest nation God ever blessed. OTOH, cowardly and lazy Alex, being the world traveler he is (just go research is past comments...he's very full of himself about his travels), gets his jollies and stokes his ego by denigrating his former nation. Probably gets a tingle up his leg, too.

The way I see it, he's treading dangerously close to being an expat recruiter again, which is why Jim Rob put the smackdown on him back in August. Watch him like a hawk (a manger hawk?), dawgs; if he starts recruiting again, we need to let the boss man know what he's up to.

You are classy and nice, ma'am. I, OTOH, am neither, so I'll call him what he is...a baldfaced liar, and possibly a tax cheat. That's in addition to him being a lazy, not-too-bright coward who often has trouble with the difference between "then" and "than".

Might as well hasten the crash...

But even if I were to go on foodstamps for any reason whatsoever, I’d continue to get my systems in place to feed my family when the food supply falters.

Here's something funny - my sister is getting EBT and is trying to improve her life through a school program. I give her money each month, plus buy a few things for her kids.

A few weeks ago, I decided to sell one of my Coach purses, and gave the other one to her. Now, you might see in a food give away line with a nice black coach purse and get enraged, but it didn't cost her a penny.

I have Coach and Vera Bradley(the flowery kind).

No EBT card though——I’m apparently doing something wrong.

The chickensh%t little man is cowardly indeed. He likes to fool himself into believing his ‘travels’, (I’m betting many other FReepers have traveled more, starting with myself), puts him above we silly folk who are staying in America. He likes to fool himself into believing his living in some turd world sewer puts himself above us silly folk that are staying in America, (I’m betting many other FReepers have the means to live anywhere else, myself included, if they wanted to except we feel we live in our dream homes and locations and would not leave for anything), for the long fight/haul. Of course the little man calls America the USSA, (I wonder how much longer the Boss is gonna put up with that treason speak?), and talks defeatist every chance he gets. Yeah, he is recruiting between the lines as always. Let’s keep an eye on the coward.

And that is how it all breaks down right there.....

I personally built my own house with my own two hands without a loan from no New York Bank jobber. Took me two years out of my own pocket as I had it.

I will not run like the coward we speak of to some foreign country to draw a pay check from the country he hates. I do have my misgivings of how our once great nation is being run and will speak up about that and am willing to fight to reestablish a republican form of government and if that fails, have Texas secede into it’s original republican borders.

But I will not run and will die a broken, tired old man before I stoop to what the coward is doing.

Hear, hear!

Playing off what Duncan once said, I'd rather die here on my own home soil, surrounded by spent cartridge cases, than in some far off banana grove, at the hands of some goat humping Muzzie with a dull, rusty machete. Yeah, our nation is a mess, but it's our mess to clean up. I won't turn chicken a** and run away from my responsibilities.

I posted the response below on another thread, responding to someone said the country was beyond hope. Seems apropos to put it here as well.

“That’s not the first time I’ve heard that sentiment. I know it may look that way, but from my viewpoint, I’ll tell you this:

No, it isn’t.

It’s only “beyond hope” when everyone gives up.

Times and people change. Little things - sometimes, the most seemingly insignificant events - sway great movements of people.

If study of history proves anything, it’s that periods of time are a pendulum, and it will always swing to either extreme.

We’ve had it good for a long time; that “time of plenty” was bought and paid for by the lives and blood of people that lived, loved, and believed in America and in the American Ideal, and were willing to pay for it with the rest of their tomorrows.

Those “tomorrows” are today. Here. Now.

Every generation gets it’s chance to prove it is worthy of that cost; sometimes the chance is blatant, other times not so much and it passes unnoticed. And when it goes by unnoticed, the successive opportunity, or opportunities become even more critical - because those that want to TAKE from you always grow bolder; they are never satisfied, and they equate a lack of resistance with a lack of courage.

We’re in such a time now, and we’re being tested. We as a Nation and a People, have been there before. How we respond - Our generation - what we do, how we behave, whether we stand or buckle - determines more than just the outcome; it determines whether successive generations will live in peace, prosperity, and the American Dream that was left to us to protect, or not.

All you can do is know where you stand, what you’re willing to do - or not willing to do - and back it up if and when the time comes. That’s your part in this drama. That’s ALL of our part.

Find your line in the sand, define it, and be willing to stand on it. Or not. That’s the choice.

French resistance writer Jean Dutourd once wrote: “In the end, the choice is always between Verdun and Dachau.”

Seems to me, each of us need to determine which of those two choices we are willing to live with.

Or, as Mike Vanderboegh put it,

...It remains to be seen whether the struggle of our generation against the tyrants of our day in the first decade of the 21st Century will bring a restoration of liberty and the rule of law or a dark and bloody descent into chaos and slavery.

If it is to be the former, I will meet you at the new Yorktown.

If it is to be the latter, I will meet you at Masada.

But I will not be a slave.
