JCPenney is cutting 2,000 jobs and closing 33 stores as the battered department store seeks to revive revenue growth, the company announced Wednesday.
The move will save about $65 million annually beginning in 2014, the company said.
JCPenney, which has about 1,100 stores, has struggled to turn a profit since former CEO Ron Johnson was fired in April.

“Also one of the implementations was to go to “everyday value” instead of sale prices.”
Yes, we gals HATED that. You make a good point about out how that could hurt sales, funny the retail experts couldn’t figure that out.
Indeed. I suspect that deadmalls.com has most of these locations listed as failing or flatlined.
Another on the “yea” side here. Since our Penney’s was recently remodeled, I didn’t expect to see it on the closure list and was happy it wasn’t. They have decent clothes at fair prices. My oldest daughter has just moved into “junior” sizes and we always find something we agree on there. I do think their housewares department has suffered in recent years, though.
What... no Mylie Cyrus or Lady Gaga brands?
Two more in MS.
Ours closed last year.
If you see something on their online store and it is on sale, you can buy it from the retail place and they will ship it free to that store. That is how I got my cute sweater with the sly fox on it. How fun it must be to have a young lady in the house...good times!
Wal-Mart does that too. I bought a USB mouse that way
My daughter isn't attracted to those styles, thank gawd. But rest assured, if she were, tough noogies!
You're correct, but I would add that it's either Chanel and other luxury goods for the already wealthy or the Dollar Generals as you mentioned. It's the middle class that's being destroyed... the bourgeoisie as Marxists would say with derision. This is intentional destruction. Most Republicans have no ability or desire to understand the malignant forces at work; some of them even collude.
You mean I have been paying shipping fees to Walmart for my jeggings, when I could have picked them up for free in-store? I’ll try that as soon as mint jeggings come back in my size. Thanks for the tip.
As an aside, Ladies, the 51% polyester Faded Glory Jeggings are the best; they slip on easy, with the faux pockets you don’t have to wear long tunics, because they look like pants, and they are very flattering. I have bought five!
lol
I don’t know what a jegging is, is that like a Pajama Jean?.. but apparently yes. My mouse cost about $4.70 and they sent it to the local WM store for me for free.
I thought the takeoff on the “Do you know what I know?” Christmas Carol was really tacky. It’s one thing to do a takeoff on a secular carol, but doing it to a sacred carol is something entirely different.
I believe that was after Ron Johnson left.
Jeggings are stretchy, tight jeans that have an elastic top like leggings; they are great with boots and go nicely with a contrasting blousy top (lol). Can you picture them?
I enjoy my Walmart, they have the best view from their parking lot, and the staff always asks if I need help. Very dear people. They run a tidy store and their bread entrances me.
My local Penney's is the only store where I can find men's undershirts made of a combination of cotton and polyester (which gives it stretch). Elsewhere all I can find is all-cotton, which I heartily dislike.
“Whats the problem, you turn off your customer base with your homo ads?”
I newly outfitted two bedrooms with new stuff from them just before they went homo loving. Haven’t bought anything from them since then. They sent me the first catalog full of homo men together, the whole catalog was them, so I called their main office and said quit sending me homosexual catalogs as I didn’t want homos in my house.
Damn, we didn’t get one.
I wanted to be there for the grand closing.
Do they have anything in there I would consider buying even at 1/2 off?
bump
Exactly. I used to buy a lot of clothes from JCP. But now I don’t even recognize the store.
So, jeans that look like you squeezed half your life out to get into, but didn’t?
