JCPenney is cutting 2,000 jobs and closing 33 stores as the battered department store seeks to revive revenue growth, the company announced Wednesday.
The move will save about $65 million annually beginning in 2014, the company said.
JCPenney, which has about 1,100 stores, has struggled to turn a profit since former CEO Ron Johnson was fired in April.

Looks like Wisconsin took a hit with five of the stores being closed.
“Sorry, I counted some of them twice.................”
And they are not all blue...
***
Correct. But neither the stores nor the media will admit this.
Retailers all have suffered under the Obama regime. Obamacare is just another nail in the coffin.
The high cost of confusing colons with reproductive organs...
They changed the CEO, I bet they are still one of the biggest pro-homo companies in America
I will never shop there again
I really like the employees at my store too. I haven’t spoken to them about the homosexual topic, but I am glad to know they aren’t targeting the “alternate lifestyles” crowd anymore.
How’s that gay promo working out?
I won’t shop at JCP or K-Mart
So they filed moral Bankruptcy in 2010 and headed straight for financial bankruptcy in 2014/2015? that will make a great economic case study for an undergrad in the near future.
And a Volt in every garage!
I could almost swear that just last week I heard MACY’s was also laying off employees, 2500, I believe.
If it weren’t for the NW corner of Indiana + the ghetto of Indianapolis rotting at the state’s core, IN would be STAUNCH red EVERY election...(even though we are more red than blue in recent history)
Yes, and rightfully so.
Did not want to go into the store so ordered them online.
Out of the three packets, two had been unpacked and sloppily put back together. No time to send them back, but will never do that again.
I am glad my local store is not closing. It is the only place in my small town where I can buy big and tall clothing for my son. I went there right after Thanksgiving. The salespeople were neat, friendly, and couldn’t do enough for us. The merchandise was orderly and well-stocked. Sale prices were great. It was the best shopping experience I have had in a long time. I went back again before Christmas and once after. (My experience at that store has not always been that good.) Local management can have a huge impact. I did not shop there under Johnson, but JC Penney admitted they made mistakes. I won’t perpetually punish a good local business that employs my neighbors because of an idiotic CEO.
Montana’s a red state.
"First Pals: What makes Dad so cool? He's the swim coach, tent maker, best friend, bike fixer and hug giver--all rolled into one. Or two." The text at the bottom right reads: "Real-life dads, Todd Koch and Cooper Smith with their children Claire and Mason."
Have not entered a JC Penneys store since they took the gay agenda stance.
“How much of the 2% of the population which is thrilled with their endorsement of their agenda actually shop at JC Penney?”
Yes, that’s what I thought at the time. I’d think about zero percent. 0% of 2% = ZERO!
They should market to the gay crowd. I bet it would payoff huge!
