Apparently this guy didn't like people texting in the movie theater, even before the movie started. The penalty for noncompliance with demands to cease being death.
Of course, by federal law, retired law enforcement officer who meet certain conditions are permitted to concealed carry. It's just ordinary citizens who can be restricted from doing so in order to protect the public. I wonder who protects the public from retired LEO's?

I’m withholding judgment. I don’t trust that the media has given us the whole story.

The important thing is this retired police officer got home safe. /sarc
In a just world, he'd be hung from the neck until dead in front of the county courthouse.

What is this?... Attack of the old people week?
There was an article on FR earlier today about an old guy attacking a wheelchair bound man in Walmart for going through the 20 item express lane with 22 items.

he appeared via video link, wearing a green suicide smock - a fire resistant outfit that can't be torn or turned into a noose. Hell, I would give him a noose, a razor blade, and a bottle of potassium cyanide and save the state the expense of trying and housing him.

During the hearing, Reeves' attorney said he 'had every right to defend himself' after the victim threw a bag of popcorn at him. Yeah, people are killed or seriously injured by thrown popcorn on a daily basis. </sarcasm>
To: P.O.E.
The lawyer’s going to argue that he felt an imminent danger of attack. Popcorn was thrown at him.
Really. That’s his “defense” at this point.

Kept texting and apparently popcorn was thrown. It is going to take a while before the aphorisim that “an armed society is a polite society” takes effect at a day-to-day cultural level.

So far it sounds like a clean self-defense shooting. The other man threw something at the ex-cop, he felt that he was in danger and shot the man.
I'm not sure how this couldn't be self-defense, but I'm sure they'll crucify him.

The other man threw something at the ex-cop, he felt that he was in danger and shot the man. He allegedly threw popcorn at him. That justifies the use of deadly force?
To: TexasGunLover
I believe he has to be in danger of great bodily harm. No one was ever killed or seriously wounded by flying popcorn kernels, to my knowledge.

Cops should not be allowed to carry firearms, and retired cops should be required to pass psychological exams to determine if they are fit to return to normal human status.

I take the cops side in this. All the guy had to do was shut off his damn cellphone. He got increasingly belligerent and the ex-cop obviously felt threatened.
I’m sick and tired of belligerent bullies. Mean people suck. Don’t be an ass, you never know who you’re dealing with and what they have on them.
To: TexasGunLover
Somebody said "popcorn was thrown." Not that the victim threw popcorn, or that the shooter threw popcorn.
And throwing popcorn does not constitute lethal force in response.
Furthermore, this jackass menaced a woman at the same theater just a few weeks prior to the incident.
Hang him.
