Susan G. Komen suffered a 22 percent drop in donations last year, which may have been due to the controversy it recently had regarding its monetary ties to Planned Parenthood, the nation's largest abortion provider.
A spokeswoman for the breast cancer awareness organization acknowledged a strong decline in donations, according to the Associated Press.
"Citing audited financial statements posted on its website this week, a spokeswoman for the Dallas-based breast cancer charity said contributions - including donations and corporate sponsorships - dropped from about $164 million from the fiscal year ending in March 2012 to $128 million in the year ending March 2013," reported the AP.
"Komen spokeswoman Andrea Rader attributed the drops to the Planned Parenthood controversy, in addition to economic uncertainty and other events vying for charity dollars."
In November 2011, Susan G. Komen's leadership voted to cut its financial ties to Planned Parenthood, partly due to the organization barring of funding from any group presently under investigation from the government.
News of the policy change was made public in late January 2012 and led to much controversy. Within days of the announcement, the charity reversed its decision and allowed for Planned Parenthood to receive funding once more from Komen.

Good. There have to be organizations that help with this cause that don’t also pay for baby killing.
They should have known better.
Well, Planned Parenthood cost them 36 million last year. Where would the CEO be if this were a public company?
Anyway, it looks like the feminist crowd has big mouths, but empty pockets.
Won’t donate a single dime to these abortion proponents. They should be ashamed of themselves for ever getting involved with the blood-covered hands of Planned Predators.
I would love to see them fold up and go away.
Seems odd if we’re a pro-baby-killing society as the left would have us believe
The topper to this is PP raked in millions due to the faux-troversy. They then turned around and cut back on mammogram referrals. So here we are with breast cancer research and screening losing tens of millions of dollars all for political advancement.
It’s almost beautiful in a ghastly way how well they scammed their supporters and ginned up their outrage.
Whole lot of PP officials are padding their resumé for Hell.
Good. Keep up the good work, Pro-Life Warriors! My Mom just went through breast cancer treatment last year - I have 4 girlfriends who have dealt with it, too. I’m sure I’m in for it at some point, but I will never, EVER support those Komen chicks. Ever.
And seriously, I’m sick of buying chicken feed in PINK BAGS every October. (Brilliant marketing, though. But The Devil is pretty brilliant, too!)
Fang-tooth feminazis are not happy. Good.
Great news! Thanks for posting this!
We quit giving and running in the races. To heck with them.
Abortion? No way.
Well, it should be a whole lot more of a drop
Abortion is a huge risk factor in breast CA.
They don’t talk about that. But it seems that when you artificially and suddenly take away the purpose for all the pregnancy hormones, they remain and wreak havoc
Idiots
Fooling around with hormones
War on women
also due to them mucking-up football by spraying pink everywhere

I knew this would happen.
On another note why does this charity have to fill the coffers of Planned Death? Don’t they get enough money from the federal government and NARAL? It is like asking money from St Jude’s Childrens hospital.
I'm sure part of the drop in donations can be attributed to PP, but I wonder how much is the result of other controversies. For example, many survivors say that Komen invests too much into "awareness" and not enough into finding a cure. Some later-stage survivors have not been happy with Komen for that very reason. Plus, many of us survivors are just tired of seeing pink everywhere; we can't even go shopping without being reminded of it.
