Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker, who survived a recall in 2012 largely due to the tea party, said Sunday that the tea party movement should target Democrats, not Republicans.
"The answer is not to take it out on House Republicans in primaries, it's to go to Louisiana, Arkansas and North Carolina," the Republican governor said on CNN's "State of the Union," referring to Senate Democrats who are facing tough reelection campaigns in red states.
Walker offered his assessment in the wake of House Speaker John Boehner's recent criticism of some conservative outside groups.
I hope this is readable, it's late, it just my thoughts, I'm dying of ovarian cancer with no hope of any more medical care, facing death, and I just see things in black and white these days. So, please, take a strong stand at every single point, and don't be afraid of losing. It is not possible to compromise any more.
Easy Sir, you may not be a fan of WI, or traitor politicians, but I’m sure WI still has some real Americans like yourself there and that are willing to fight the good fight for freedom. We need to ally with all our like minded brothers and sisters all over.
Scott Walker was never a conservative...just another WISC. Liberal RINO. People fell for his shtick when he went after govt employee unions. Walker is a big pro Amnesty liberal
Sounds like you’re one of those liberal RINOs trying to sabotage conservatives
God bless you erkelly, thanks for your insight and may your journey be gentle.
Yes, actually, we DO.
We need solid conservatives.
We also need to coach them better to make sure they perform under pressure. We need SKILLED versions of the people you mentioned. Ted Cruz springs to mind.
The primaries are the RINO’s soft underbelly.
Living in Wisconsin, I have to step in here.
By the measure of many here even Ronald Reagan would not be conservative enough today. Walker is not Reagan, but for someone who is being called a liberal here, he sure has done a whole lot of conservative things. I have looked around, and he is one of the best there is right now. Please stop believing the intentional mis-quotes from the media, who hate him and are doing everything they can to destroy this good man.
Meanwhile, here is the money quote in context:
CROWLEY: Governor, quickly here, when Republicans on Capitol Hill agree to a budget agreement before they left for the holiday recess, Speaker John Boehner came out and really took on conservatives Tea Party-types for having an undue influence on some of his members that have blocked famously a number of things that we know that Speaker Boehner wanted to do, what do you think the role of the Tea Party is in 2014 in terms of Republican primaries or even moving into the generals? Are they on the rise in power or on the wane?
WALKER: Well, it’s hard to say because there’s no one monolithic group that’s the tea party. What I’ve seen over the years is frustration build across my state and across the country, particularly, with the federal government, what people thought the government had gone too big, too expensive, too a part of our lives. Obamacare was kind of the last straw a few years ago.
People showed up at the Congressional town hall meetings and when people didn’t feel like they were listened to, then they took out their frustration, particularly in the 2010 election.
CROWLEY: Right.
WALKER: I think that degree is healthy if it’s focused in the right way, but one of the things I said after the budget compromise is for people who didn’t like it who didn’t think it was good enough, the answer is not to take it out on House Republicans or in primaries, the answer is to go to Kentucky — excuse me to go to Louisiana or go to Arkansas or go to North Carolina or Alaska, where there are senators facing real elections as Democrats and go and help in those elections and elect new Republicans to come because a year from now, things will be much different if republicans hold the United States Senate.
CROWLEY: Got to —
WALKER: Don’t focus on the people in office, focus on those who you’d like to replace.
end quote
Taking it in context, it is not that bad, but still pretty bad. He is talking about the senate there. But he does need to work on message delivery.
Yeah. Focus on the Dems and end up with another “Republican” Congress like we had in the early and mid 2000s.
The Tea Party should target restoration of the Constitution:
Article V.

I'm not the one that is consistently losing senate elections that were guaranteed wins, and insanely demanding that we continue to do so. you tell me who is actually and demonstrably committing acts of sabotage.
look the word up if it helps.
yeah, I mentioned as much somewhere upstream in this thread. it's unbelievable that those guys weren't ready for the abortion question. they need to get their act together before the "gotcha" interviews and debates begin.
they don't seem to understand that there is a grenade wrapped in virtually every question that the media asks.
I have a new year's prediction; ted cruz will disappoint the purist sect at FR, and become persona non grata for being insufficiently pure. take it to the bank. it will happen.
While I agree with many of the comments thus far, did we take Walker’s comments to mean we should leave Rhino’s alone completely? I did NOT hear that from him but did hear that we should be attacking basically those who we do not agree with politically. If that means BOTH repubs and demodummies, then so be it. I DID NOT hear him say anything about attacking the Tea Party.
Then, which side are we on, the side of conservatives or the liberals?
decrying just about everyone for being insufficiently pure and condemning them to hell is a favorite pasttime at FR.
j’accuse!
Because he thinks that dems should be targeted over RINOs? Or are there other reasons as well?
Backing a party over conservatism is troublesome, but not disqualifying in my estimate. He certainly hasn’t declared war on conservatives like the GOPe “leadership” in congress.
Walker isn't the normal RINO in any fashion, he's not like Ryan and he's not like Jeb or Christie. He's not entirely right here, and he should have made the same comment to the GOPe.
But he's not entirely wrong either. The Tea Party can't win without eventually uniting with the GOP and it needs to primarily focus on the genuine evil of the democrat party.
cart. horse. . . you do realize that it's necessary to get elected before you are able to enact any policies, correct? and do you further realize that republicans only hold one house of congress, and that the one undeniable accomplishment of the purist sect of the conservative movement has been to make it increasingly difficult to capture the second one?
With some.
Not all.
Some will be 'concern trolls'.
No, not another one. Walker simply recognizes what we should all face, the Klingon aphorism: “Only a fool fights in a burning house.” Let’s douse the fire. Please, first defeat the principal enemy, then address internal questions with reason and discussion.
At this time in history, Walker has it right. Do you want to be pure or do you want to save the Republic?
The more the republicans are rewarded, by you and your ilk, for being squishy, the squishier they will get.
I won't be a fellow enabler.
