Talk about an anachronism, never mind the socialist aspect of the whole thing. Is it almost the end for black and white televisions? Just 11,500 households still have a license for oneand its a third the price of color
They weren’t real common in my childhood, now they’re virtually extinct.
I expect they’re still popular in North Korea and a few other places.
You need a license in Britain to have a TV? That’s weird.
I’m not sure I understand. People in the UK need a license to have a TV in their own homes?
You need a license to watch tv in Great Britain? my first reaction to this was, “holy crap! What a fascist country”. But then I thought about it.
We should do the same thing here. you should have to pass a test, and buy a license before you are allowed to watch tv. That would solve a LOT of problems.
The best TV is in black and white!!!!!

Check out ‘Terry and the Pirates’ (under Adventure) or any of them.
I got my first TV at age 12 in 1988 and it was black and white.
I remember when my parents finally got color TV, close to the last ones in my neighborhood.
I would pay $100 per year for a TV license if and only if it eliminated advertisements.
License to watch TV.??... if you got only one eye does it cost half price?...
Black & White TV, the way God intended it, the way the world looks!
Around 1952 we bought the first TV set in our rural community. Everything was black and white and the station did not come on until dusk.
One day a school mate told me they were going to be on all day until midnight. I wondered how you would be able to see it in the daytime. Well you actually could not see it as well tho no one really cared.
The real problem is our neighbors would come over to watch TV. Some would stay up and watch it even after we all went to bed. MY Mother got a little irritated over one guy who would stay there until the station went off then not turn the TV off before leaving.
"One wants one's BBC !"
When my dad was stationed in England in the 1960s they still had the radio license fee which dated all the way back to the beginning of the BBC in the 1920s. I know we paid the TV tax but I don’t think we paid for a radio.
So far as I know they did not tax portable or auto radios, just AC powered ones.
License? What is this about a license? You have to PAY A LICENSE in the UK just to watch TV?!
License = tax, probably obligatory except for free passes issued to privileged chosen ones . Government run TV just like Hitlers ministry.
“License” a black and white television, but watch a color monitor.
The Obamavoters would RIOT if there was a tax on tee vee viewing/ownership.
