This is such a funny tale. So, if the weather lets up, they will try to fly in some people to see if they can rescue the idiots.

If they can rescue the idiots, it will be just to the Chinese ice breaking ship. Then the Australian ice breaking ship will pick them up...

craziness.

Imagine the size of the carbon footprint this little adventure has made. Oh the horror, the absolute horror.

AGW phonies to be plucked from a Russian ship by a Red Chinese helicopter and transported to a Red Chinese icebreaker...perfect combination and symmetry of fascism and leftism.

"Passengers link arms and stamp out a helicopter landing site on the ice near the MV Akademik Shokalskiy (back R), still stuck in the ice off eastern Antarctica, as the ship waits for a possible helicopter rescue,"

Going unnoticed is the fact that these rescue missions at one time were always American ventures. There is no mention (at least none that I am aware) in this several days long saga of an American offer of help.

An example of our reach and influence in decline.

There is something a tad unsettling with the idea of climbing aboard a helicopter MADE IN CHINA.

"Australian authorities, who are coordinating the rescue, plan to use the helicopter on board the Chinese-flagged icebreaker Xue Long to bring 52 passengers off the boat, leaving behind its 22 crew members."

Large crew.

Wouldn’t it be better to release an infinite amount of Fluorocarbons around the area and wait on the ice to melt? Might get two birds with one stone. I encourage the researchers to consider this option first.

If I were the pilot, I’d make each and every one of them sign a statement disavowing Global Warming as communist bullshit subterfuge before I allowed them on my aircraft. I swear I would.

Who's picking up the tab for this enormously expensive rescue operation?

I have a picture of the fuel, insurance and personnel expenses being happily donated by the Chinese or others involved....oh, yeah.

Betcha a dollar to a doughnut that the good ole U S of A is clandestinely shelling out taxpayers' money for the environmental whackos' airlift operation.

Why not drop a line of bombs from near the ship to the open sea. It seems to me that would be he most efficient solution, and it would give some extra training to the lucky pilot.

They were following a route taken 100 years ago in ice free water. The ice there now is proof of global warming.
