Former CIA Director James Woolsey had harsh words Tuesday for anyone thinking about giving Edward Snowden amnesty, and argued the NSA leaker should be hanged if hes ever tried and convicted of treason.
Woolsey, along with former Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Gen. Hugh Shelton, spoke Tuesday in Washington in an interview with Fox News.
I think giving him amnesty is idiotic, Woolsey said. He should be prosecuted for treason. If convicted by a jury of his peers, he should be hanged by his neck until he is dead."

Second rule of government: enrich your pals!
Third rule of government: get reelected!
Fourth rule of government: follow rules 1,2,3!
Why not just drone strike him?
Trials are messy. The NSA might have work with the FBI to investigate and dig up dirt on the jurors for Holder to guarantee a conviction. That might cause blowback, but the NSA and FBI have the wherewithal to create a complete dossier on everybody now. In 21st Century, 4-felonies-per-day America, their juror dossiers would normally assure conviction. But the Snowden case suggests there are still Americans who cannot be cowed, and might reveal government abuse of power without regard to personal consequences out of patriotism, or moral imperative, or a sense of justice.
It’s safer just to drone strike or otherwise assassinate Snowden. Of course, that’s difficult while he’s in Russia. Twenty-five years ago it was unimaginable that the fundamental natural rights of any American could possibly be better protected in Russia than in the US. Arguably, that is indeed the case with Snowden.
I would say the people spying on us, working against the regular folks are the ones who would need the noose. His definition of treason differs from mine.
It depends upon a free market, which in turn relies upon freedom.
“Communist Russia”?
Russia, with its 15% marginal income tax rate for individuals and 24% for corporations is less statist on this very important metric than the US. The US government taxes individuals with a 35%+ marginal income tax and 35% for corporations, and still runs up massive deficits and prints money with abandon.
However, there are other metrics compiled by the Fraser Institute on economic freedom. They rigorously compile an index based upon objective metrics related to size of government, legal system and property rights, sound money, freedom to trade internationally, and regulation.
The US, which was #2 back in the ‘90s, has slipped to the #17 position (between Estonia and Cyprus). Russia is #101 out of 152.
Personally, I think Fraser underestimates the US decline in economic freedom, but their method is data driven. And the trend for the US is really, really bad. Economic freedom is on the rise in world at large. From 1990 to 2011 Russia’s score went from 5.02 to 7.38 out of 10. The US went from 8.35 to 7.74.

If there are treason trials, then a lot of others need to be tried also.
Blanket domestic spying is against the constitution. Mr NSA I am not happy that you have read my email, and probably stole my family Runza recipe.
We must protect the runzas!
The establishment sure is irked over Snowden. I say give him a medal.
Obama has done more to damage US security than anyone.
There are a lot of people with power who want to destroy conservatives.
I don't mean their reputation, I mean totally destroy. I have met a few of them.
Nixon had an enemies list, so does Obama. Expect Nixon had a moral limit, the current group doesn't.
So yes, I am concerned about the guys who think that heterosexuals and Christians are evil listing to my cell and email.
It is treason that the NSA and DHS and Obama
IGNORED the Boston terrorists, and warning about
them, over and over, -— BEFORE the Boston Atrocity.
It's comical to hear some big-government globalist @sshole like Woolsey make statements like this. Snowden has ruffled all the right feathers, as far as I'm concerned.
totally agree.
Thanks
I'm certainly no fan of the New York Times, but it turns out everything they reported was available from public documents that were released by the U.S. Justice Department in criminal cases involving U.S. residents charged with aiding terrorists overseas.
Treason? ROFL.
That’s a dangerous thought process.
I think giving him amnesty is idiotic. He should be prosecuted for treason. If convicted by a jury of his peers, he should be hanged by his neck until he is dead."
Well, of course, anyone convicted of treason, in an honest and just trial by a jury of his peers, should be hanged... and in public.
And regardless of whether Fox News considers them to be harsh or not, Woolsey's words apply equally, if not more so, to Traitorobama, his administration (including Hillary), and the Demonrat members of the House and Senate.
They can hang Snowden right after they hang a double handful of Congress critters, Admin “officials”, and sundry other traitors who have been working hard to subjugate the People.
Finally, someone cuts to the heart of the issue...
It doesn’t matter that you have nothing to hide. What matters is that it’s none of their damn business.
Also: Runzas!
The US Constitution was written in plain English, and no amount of weasel words, gerrymandered interpretations nor judges false decisions should be allowed to twist them or change their context. And if we have enemies that need opposing we must meet them on the battlefield and crush them there--not crush our rights at home. Our RIGHTS are what we fight for and recognition of our rights lets the government exist.
The Founding Fathers knew JUST what they were doing. They meant what they said and said what they meant. The wrote the Constitution, including those first ten amendments, with a purpose and recognition that learned, intelligent Americans would understand it.
I took a Sacred Oath (So help me, God!) to that Constitution. I do not CARE if nobody or everybody gives a damn about my phone conversations--they are MINE. The government has no RIGHT whatsoever unless probable cause has been sworn to and a judge writes a warrant.
When you or anyone tries to subvert that Constitution that makes YOU a domestic enemy.
You sound like a leftist. Snowden comitted treason and should be executed.
