What people don’t know is that the Christmas special almost didn’t happen, because some not-so-smart television executives almost didn’t let it air. You see, Charles Schulz had some ideas that challenged the way of thinking of those executives 46 years ago, and one of them had to do with the inclusion in his Christmas cartoon of a reading from the King James Bible’s version of the Gospel of Luke.
The more things change, the more things stay the same.
There was a standoff of sorts, but Schulz did not back down, and because of the tight production schedule and CBS’s prior promotion, the network executives aired the special as Schulz intended it. But they were certain they had a flop on their hands.
“They were freaking out about something so overtly religious in a Christmas special,” explained Melendez. “They basically wrote it off, like, hey, this is just isn’t going to be interesting to anyone, and it’s just going to be like a big tax write-off.”
Melendez himself was somewhat hesitant about the reading from Luke. “I was leery of the religion that came into it, and I was right away opposed to it. But Sparky just assumed what he had to say was important to somebody.”

I can’t believe they still show it on network TV without some disclaimer at the beginning saying that “some content may offend certain viewers”.

I had a discussion just yesterday with a friend...when did the meaning of Christmas become so watered down and off message?
Neither of us are youngsters and neither of us could remember.
And there were in the same country shepherds abiding in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night.
And, lo, the angel of the Lord came upon them, and the glory of the Lord shone round about them; and they were sore afraid.
And the angel said unto them, Fear not: for, behold, I bring you tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people.

The liberals are so concerned by the rights of THE MAJORITY. It’s always about the MAJORITY for them. Except when it’s about the rights of the minority, of course.
Why is it, that Jews and Christians managed to live and work together for 200 years in this country, no problem with celebrating Christmas, Hanukkah...for my grade school, no problem whatsoever, and NOW, suddenly, we have a problem??

Well ... when I was in school, we had prayer in school (that was the Dallas, Texas school district). I even remember one of my assignments in school being the memorization (and recitation) of one of the Psalms.
AND THEN ... all of a sudden ... that quit, and no one (in school) said why!
But we know why — the God-haters have always been at it, not wanting to hear anything from God, or His Word, the Bible - or from His Son, Jesus the Messiah of Israel.

I went to school in Dallas myself. :)
We all said the Pledge of Allegiance and nobody ran around tearing their hair out because they were offended.
We all prayed and nobody wailed that they were down trodden.
So do you think that ONE person...Madilyn Murray O’Hare or whatever her name was, had such a loud voice that it opened the door for all of this craziness to become more overt and acceptable?
Reading the article about the Peanuts dilemma it must have been going on for a long time...just behind the curtain (so to speak).
Even though Oregon has a reputation for being one of the most unchurched states in the US, it also has a very vibrant and alive Christian community. And the others there have a “live and let live” attitude.
But although I was there about 40 years, I’m now in Tulsa - and right in the Bible Belt. There is a difference in the cultures of Oregon to Oklahoma - but while the greater majority in Oklahoma accept Christianity implicitly - there is a great degree of superficiality to it here, I find.
I just had an after thought.
It really had little to do with MMOH’s big voice...it had to do with the Supreme Court that upheld her minority complaint.
