Cracker Barrel: We screwed up big time
FoxNews ^ | 12/22/2013 | Todd Starnes

“We were flat out wrong."

That’s the message Cracker Barrel is sending to enraged customers after the restaurant chain removed Duck Dynasty items from its stores over fears it might offend people.

“Our intent was to avoid offending but that’s just what we’ve done,” Cracker Barrel said in a statement posted on its Facebook page. “You told us we made a mistake. And, you weren’t shy about it. You wrote, you called and you took to social media to express your thoughts and feelings.”

One of those customers was Tony Perkins, president of the Family Research Council. He said his family has eaten in nearly every Cracker Barrel in the country.

“Cracker Barrel must be off their rocker,” he said in a statement to Fox News. “For Cracker Barrel to take the bait of an organization like GLAAD, which has led the attack on Phil Robertson, they are betraying the values of the vast majority of their customers.”

Betraying sounds about right. Here is CB's Our Diverse Community

"...and operate within culture of mutual respct."

Guess they forgot about that part.

They changed their mind. They publicly supported the Robertson family. Someone screwed up, but they fixed it within 24 hours. What do you want now, a pound of flesh? Its a victory. A good solid victory. If they are rewarded, it shows that GLAAD is a paper tiger. Isn’t that a good outcome? Haven’t you ever heard the story of the prodigal son? Sheesh.

“Trust but verify” may satisfy you.

I can live with that policy.
However the verification time may take a while.
Yes, you can but should you
Giving the benefit of the doubt, in this case, my be the correct course of action.
They could learn from the response of their customer base, and I hope they do.
Bending over for the thespians at the speed they did does make one a little edgy.

Let's put it down to Corporate level panic. The ol' Kneejerk reaction.

Your plan is, when the 16 year old has a party and trashes the house while your away, to have the kid apologize and maybe even promise to never do it again. You then clean up his mess, pay to replace everything he broke, and then give him his allowance because, after all, he did apologize and making him rectify his mistake would be too harsh.

My plan is making the kid clean up, pay for everything he broke and ground him for awhile, give him a ton of extra work to do, making sure the next time I was away neither he nor his brother even thought of having a party.

GAYs and Homosexuals were more important to your Business model than Christians!

That's all we will remember about Cracker Barrel. That is your new legacy.

Perhaps we are closer than this conversation would lead either of us to believe.

Since GLAAD will now turn with a veagance against CB, now’s the fine to turn tactical and also reinforce their correct concept of their true demographic. Be magnanimous in victory — thank them by email en mass for CORRECTING their mistake, for being prodigal, and that you and others have reconsidered and will once again patronize. Reward good behavior. And do the opposite of the enemy. It’s only a matter of time that GLAAD starts a boycott CB movement. Now why would anyone want to be on THAT side of the fence ? There may have been factions within CB management and the GOOD GUYS just won out. Reward that!!

Yeah, that was dumb gone to seed all right. Sometimes you just have to shake your head and wonder how someone can be so danged stupid.

It would be like if John Boehner were to talk about conservatives, saying “They’re using our members and they’re using the American people for their own goals,” and if he were to call the tea party Republicans “ridiculous.”

But as for Cracker Barrel, I support anyone who repents of their wrong ways. God knows, I sure have for my sins.

Come to think of it, that’s what Phil Robertson was talking about. How ‘bout that.

YAY!!!.....I was one of those irate customers....I personally went to my local Cracker Barrel and complained. Yes, they should never have bowed to pressure in the first place.... ..but I will give them another chance....they seem to be abjectly sorry and apologetic ...----and meanwhile it sticks a good ole country fork in the bullies' craw.

Yea I'll go back to CB now as well with CB under a probation status for a while. I sent off an email to them over it. Letters and calls are more effective than anything. They were wrong, they quickly admitted so, which is a victory for what is right. It was a very fast reaction considering it happened over the weekend when most cooperate offices are closed. My guess is a lower level marketing exec made the initial decision. Sounds like someone much higher up the corp ladder finally turned the TV on LOL.

Now I do wonder if I ought to write a nasty gram to a certain big box building supply company in K-Town with a blatant gay cashier that wears a bottle of women's perfume to work? I will pay far more attention as to who's line I get in if I go back there and avoid having my sinuses offended. LOL

Following graduation from Vanderbilt Sandy joined the U.S. Army...

That explains a lot. She was one of those Affirmative Action / Equal Opportunity mandatory hires and has operated under the umbrella of Special and Privileged her entire life.

It does not matter what the standards are, she is one of the Enlightened Ones and all must bow down to her exalted knowledge.

Don't agree with the gay lifestyle? Homophobe! Don't agree with the concept of feminism (women need men like a fish needs a bicycle) and women-are-smarter-than-men? Sexist bigoted pig! Have deep-set religious Christian belifs? Intolerant Neanderthol! Homosexuals make up less than three percent of CB's clientele, but CB has been endorsing a product by a devoutly religious man? Of course we need to pull his products and alienate ninety percent of our paying customers! We Must Be Tolerant by not tolerating Christian beliefs!

In re: Sandra B. Cochran
There is NO mention of husband, children or family any dozens of biographical websites...

I think you hit the mark there. I looked as well, and could find nothing about that either. If she is indeed a militant liberal -I mean, 'lesbian', that would explain CB acceding to the homosexual kkk's preferences. She very likely possesses many if not all of the same beliefs.

Time to fire a CEO who put her personal preferences above the bottom line of the company she was placed in charge of. Her job was to create profit, not cause controversy and alienate the vast majority of the company customer base by putting her ideology over everything else.

You want to apologize, CB? Time to fire the major decision maker who approved this corporate seppuku.

And the next company that makes a mistake will know that admitting it and undoing it will have absolutely no benefit to them. Once someone has chosen the other side, you will insure that they have absolutely no incentive nor any ability to rejoin your side. Is that the message you want to send?

Sorry, but like I said, I can hold a grudge as well as anyone can.

I don't believe in second chances with these fly-by-night, knee jerk anti-family decisions. Kinda' like a loved one cheating on you even once . . . you can never trust them again, and no amount of apologies can be accepted.

There are many other restaurants to patronize.

I dont need a friend whose first inclination is to stab me in the back at the first sign of trouble. It shows their character or lack of it. I dont think they “changed throe mind” out of consience, they were getting beaten over the head by their customers. I believe in forgiveness but like the prodigal son a price has to be paid. They havent paid a price.

Heck, I have not eaten at one 5 times in my life. But, as Interstate Restaurants go, they are pretty good.
