OTTAWA The Supreme Court of Canada struck down all current restrictions on prostitution on Friday, including bans on brothels and on street solicitation, declaring the laws were unconstitutional because they violated prostitutes' safety.
The sweeping 9-0 decision will take effect in one year, inviting Parliament to try to come up with some other way to regulate the sex trade if it chooses to do so.
Prostitution is technically legal in Canada but most related activities have been illegal, including living off the avails of someone else's prostitution, but the court found that the provisions were overly broad or grossly disproportionate.

Finally, a place where a US lady can get a job.
Why don’t we have male prostitutes? It’s discrimination that women don’t have male prostitute brothels.
Tax. But who's gonna collect it?....................
The slippery slope just got slipperier.
Obviously you have never been on Craigslist...................
I don’t have a problem with prostitution...not much different than two dates and a nice free meal...and not intended to turn into a relationship.
Canada - 2 years ahead of us on the “final swirl”.
I hope you didn’t post this just for that joke.
What about "Fred Garvin: Male Pross-tee-toot!"
Another blow for entrepreneurship?
“Obviously you have never been on Craigslist...................”
No, I haven’t. You must be telling me there are male prostitutes on Craigslist, but are there brothels, a building of their own where the lady goes, just like men go to places like that for women?
Some time ago, I thought Craigslist was like Angie’s list, the rating of businesses like cleaning, auto repair, things like that. Now, I haven’t been to Angie’s list, either, but their commercials seem to be about legitimate businesses. Maybe Craigslist is like that, too, except they have a personal section?
Rats! You beat me to it! And the greatest thing is that both "Fred" and Margot Kidder, who told him that she didn't want him to "roger me roundly" are both Canadians.
“declaring the laws were unconstitutional because they violated prostitutes’ safety”
I wonder if the legalization of bank robbery is next? After all, it’s quite dangerous being a bank robber given how bank robery is illegal.
“Another blow for entrepreneurship?”
ISWYDT-
Craigslist is more like free-republic. All text based, a section for anything and service offered for anything in the world by anyone.
No verification of anything. Think of it like the wild west or a Islamic bazarr.
How wonderful that they have that socialized medicine to take care of all those venereal diseases that everyone denies prostitutes have:)
They did not strike down all restrictions and etc. - they stayed that action for a year to allow Parliament to rewrite the laws to make them align with the Charter.
So if you spent millions of dollars gentrifying an elegant old home in Toronto, you now have no recourse against working girls conducting their business on your front sidewalk.
How does banning streetwalkers endanger their safety?!?
