A great number of Democrats have touted the bipartisan budget agreement reached by Paul Ryan and Patty Murray. Enough Republicans swallowed the idea to pass it through the House and the Senate and it is on the President's desk. Everyone is happy that an agreement has been reached that will lessen the likelihood of another government shutdown early in 2014. Until President Obama made his position on the debt ceiling clear. He says he will not negotiate on raising the debt ceiling, insisting the Republicans allow the increase, while getting nothing in return.
The Washington Times - Despite the recent bipartisan breakthrough on the budget, the White House insisted Monday it will not negotiate with congressional Republicans on the next debt ceiling increase and will demand an unconditional increase before the government hits its borrowing limit early next year.So much for bipartisanship. The next question is obvious to me. President Obama is not a popular president right now. The disaster of the ObamaCare roll out has shown him for the liar he really is. His approval ratings are in the cellar. More and more Americans are realizing how much they have been lied to by a slick-talking half-black man who had no experience at anything except organizing rallies and campaigning. They are realizing how his hope and change is full of lies and deceit. The Obama administrations line in the sand sets up yet another high-stakes political chess match with the House GOP one that could soon overshadow the budget deal achieved last week.
The presidents position is what it is and it wont change, White House press secretary Jay Carney told reporters after being pressed on whether the administration would be willing to put further spending cuts, entitlement reform or other Republican wish-list items on the table in exchange for a debt-ceiling increase.
That stance stands in stark contrast to the one laid out over the weekend by House Budget Committee Chairman Paul Ryan, the Republican architect of the two-year budget deal struck with Democratic leaders in the Senate last week. That agreement, hailed by the White House, failed to address the debt ceiling, with both sides agreeing to leave that fight for another day.
When that day comes, Mr. Ryan, Wisconsin Republican, said Sunday that his party wont settle for nothing. House Speaker John A. Boehners office said Monday the issue will be discussed when GOP members meet for their annual retreat next month.
All of that being said, does he have the ability to hold this line in the sand? The last time he pulled this stunt, he had the American still in his back pocket. They still believed every word he read off his teleprompter. The media was still refusing to question any position he held. That has changed now. The media is now reporting on how much he has been lying to the American people and many of us are waking up to the fact that we have a liar-in-chief who rivals Bill Clinton living in the White House.
President Obama's position of refusing to negotiate on the debt ceiling can not be tenable. I can't tell you what the Republicans will do, but I contend they should stand their ground and call his bluff. After five years of hearing him lie every time he gets in front of a camera, the American people may have had enough. I know I have. Thus, it is past time we called a spade what it is.
President Obama is a liar. The American people are waking up to that fact. The Republicans should use every tool in their bag to capitalize on that realization. If they are to regain a position where they can successfully challenge Obama on his lies, they need to wake up to that political reality.
This is the White House’s strategy to get Obamacare off the front page and change the ssubject. Be careful Republicans. It is a trap.
It would be awesome if the house and senate overruled any veto by Obama.
If the GOPe doesn’t intend to follow through, they shouldn’t start this fight. Boehner will not hold his ground or even support this fight. Anything like this should start with removing Boehner, so unless that is in the cards, don’t divert attention from the Obamacare disaster.
Obama’s trustability is in the toilet.
The Republicans can exploit this easily.
He has them hostage with the E.B.T.
Last time they turned it off for 1/2 day and the net was full of riot talk.
It ain’t what Obama says that is the problem. It’s how the media cover it.
He’ll lie. Will they report it as a lie?
The Republican retreat is next month. Maybe they'll get an earful when they go home for Christmas and decide they should start thinking like Ted Cruz. Maybe sellouts like Ayotte will be thoroughly chastized by their conservative voters.
That's my Christmas dream. (sigh)
Precisely. YOU get it.
Obama DOES NOT CARE if the country burns. Hell, he'd like it -- it would be his chance to invoke the Emergency Powers Act and scrap Congress (and the Senate).
This is what he is doing:
Has there ever been such a hideous, venal, evil man in the Presidency?
The debt ceiling is settled law.
end of story.
When do you get it through your head that we can not do it with the House alone? *rme*
If we had both Houses we could
It seems his betrayal by secret negotiations with Iran is going to have just that result. Bipartisan rejection.
Now, if it leads patriots to rise above party and personal gain to do the same on his domestic policies....
If we have learned anything in the last 5 years it is that Republicans will not stand their ground.
We cannot do it with the GOPe ever.
...and the nation's ammunition supply was quickly bought up by concerned citizens preparing to protect their families from rioting Democrats.

Apparently half brother has been a guest of the chins for yrs.
Oh well
The unpopular liar will hold his ground. The gutless Republicans will back down. The gutless Republicans are convinced this is what Americans want them to do. Americans will return most of them to office in 2014. The “gutless” Republicans will therefore believe they are doing what we want them to, in spite of the noise we make. What we need to do is not return ANY of them to office in 2014.
