According to the health department, all of the patients have had flu-like and/or pneumonia like symptoms. However, all of them have tested negative for the flu.
There have been eight confirmed patients ranging in age from 41 to 68. Four of those patients have died.

Sounds like last night’s episode of NCIS.
******************************
Four so far. That's a very high death rate.
Monkey County Ping.
Pneumonic plague.
It's going around, currently there is an outbreak in Madagascar.
I'll bet terrorists would love to get this going in the general population.
</TIN FOIL HAT ALERT>
I'll bet the CDC and quite possibly USAMRID already are engaged.
I was thinking the same thing. Love that show.
Sounds like Hanta to me.
“That’s a very high death rate.”
Wait a bit to see what the real numbers are.
I remember from the last birdflu scare several years ago that resulted in hand sanitizers going up everywhere (still in place) was initially reported with the same type of apocolyptic numbers.
As I recollect, it started in a Mexican hospital where about 9 out of 90 died. Even though that’s only 10% compared to 50%, it’s still an extremely high fatality rate, hence the sanitizer surge.
However, it came out a week or so later that the number was misleading because it wasn’t 9 out of 90 who got the illness, it was 9 out of 90 admitted to the hospital. Note, admitted is not just showing up to the emergency room. Admitted means they got a bed.
It turned out, that the 90 admitted were out of about a thousand known cases as of that date.
So wait a week before cracking open your survival kit, if you have one.
bioterror?
The Spanish Flu killed about 1% of the world’s population after WW1.
I’m a little worried about the Madagascar plague too. The mullahs could have sent the infected all over the Christian world. I’ll get a whole lot more worried when mysterious flu-like deaths start showing up elsewhere.
Tinfoil scenario B is a person returning home from vacation in Madagascar with the plague.
Hanta’s there, but... you can’t see him!
Ask the prairie dogs!
Sounds like carbon monoxide poisoning.
I have a man family member who will be at my house on Thursday evening and Friday morning and was going to Kroger today to buy food. I think I'm not going to do that. I am well and something outside my front door has killed four people out of eight who became sick with flu like symptoms. The film with this article has a reporter saying the people's kidneys failed. I haven't heard of that happening with the flu. It could happen with pneumonia if the person was close to death but these kidney failures appear to be happening before death is near.
Rather than going to Kroger, I would be safer and so would the family member when he gets here, if I feed us from emergency stored food and don't leave my house at this time.
Kartographer, this is an emergency time where an illness not identified is killing people in my county. This is a reason for having stored food - perhaps this is a mini pandemic affecting only this county, or maybe it isn't and it spreads. I think I am taking a chance if I leave my house since I don't know why people are getting very sick and dying. The four who haven't died are in the hospital 5 minutes from me.
I should know if our Freeper, rightly_dividing, and his wife are put in the hospital today. If they aren't hospitalized, I should hear from him later today.
Scary... prayers and thoughts.
Well.. I’m making a run into New Caney shortly.
I’ll ask my buds at Brookshire Brothers if there are any folks out sick.
Please keep us updated.
