There has been no direct comment from China's Foreign Ministry or defense officials on the Dec. 5 incident in the South China Sea, where the USS Cowpens was operating in international waters. The U.S. ship, a 10,000-ton Ticonderoga-class cruiser, maneuvered to avoid the collision, the U.S. Pacific Fleet has said.

I will avoid buying anything from China. And Mexico.

I think Japan could make a come back...but they lack the land.

China is 1930 Japan, hoping to expand their sphere of influence and benefit materially from their economic and military resurgence.

They feel no kinship towards ‘western democracies’.

Wouldn’t be surprised if Kim (North Korea) steps in and does something stupid.

US administrations have been known in the past to provoke enemies...and this would be an auspicious time for the current administration for a limited war with China

I’m sure that a couple of suitcases full of cash from the Chinese to the Democrat party could put an end to this. Maybe Clinton should go to China to remind them of how bribery works.

There’ve been a number of these reports on China’s claims and belligerence recently.

What it means is that there are current power struggles within the Communist Party.

When I was a young man, they built large buildings, filled them with machines, and called them factories.

When I was middle aged, they built large buildings, filled them with goods from China, and called them warehouses.

Now that I’m an old man, they don’t build large buildings.

China’s announcement of a Space Area Identification Defense Zone With Hazardous Operations (SAIDZWHO) covers substantial portions of the Lunar envelope above China extending 232,000 to the moon and beyond. All spacecraft entering this defense zone must ask permission from Bejing for directions and fly-by commands. All spacecraft entering said zone with identification verified fly-by must have Kung Pao chicken on-board cuisine at all times.

I remember when they instituted that, it was right
after the Hawaiian air defense zone shot down that
commercial flight.

I think it is almost impossible for most Americans to conceive of the scale of the economic assets we have ceded over to the Chinese and the other Asian economies.

Just because a country’s doing well economically doesn’t mean they “took” anything from us. Buying something from somebody is a mututally agreeable transaction, not one person stealing from the other person.

I’ll take free trade with an open democracy like South Korea or Japan anyday. I can understand wanting to not trade with China due to their communist system and potential military threat, for the same reason we don’t trade with Cuba.
