Pope Francis Responds to Rush Limbaugh: “Marxist Ideology Is Wrong”
The Gateway Pundit ^ | 12-15-2013 | Jim Hoft

In November Rush Limbaugh blasted Pope Francis for his anti-capitalist economic statements. Rush Limbaugh admitted being “befuddled” by the harsh words about “unfettered capitalism” released by Pope Francis.

“If it weren’t for capitalism I don’t know where the Catholic Church would be?” The Pope has gone beyond Catholicism here… This is just pure Marxism coming out of the mouth of the Pope.”

Today Pope Francis responded saying, “The Marxist ideology is wrong.” But, then he went on to attack free-market “trickle-down” economics.

Via Vatican Insider:

Some of the passages in the “Evangelii Gaudium” attracted the criticism of ultraconservatives in the USA. As a Pope, what does it feel like to be called a “Marxist”?

“The Marxist ideology is wrong. But I have met many Marxists in my life who are good people, so I don’t feel offended.”

The most striking part of the Exhortation was where it refers to an economy that “kills”…

“There is nothing in the Exhortation that cannot be found in the social Doctrine of the Church. I wasn’t speaking from a technical point of view, what I was trying to do was to give a picture of what is going on. The only specific quote I used was the one regarding the “trickle-down theories” which assume that economic growth, encouraged by a free market, will inevitably succeed in bringing about greater justice and social inclusiveness in the world. The promise was that when the glass was full, it would overflow, benefitting the poor. But what happens instead, is that when the glass is full, it magically gets bigger nothing ever comes out for the poor. This was the only reference to a specific theory. I was not, I repeat, speaking from a technical point of view but according to the Church’s social doctrine. This does not mean being a Marxist.”

Someone needs to send the Pope a book on economics. Even Democratic President John F. Kennedy, a Catholic, understood that ‘a rising tide lifts all boats.’

The Marxist ideology is institutionalized thievery, and the methodology of typically very much worse. The Pope did say it is wrong, but unfortunately didn’t include a lot of details. On the other hand, I don’t think we should be worshipers of capitalism, either. In an imperfect world there are imperfect solutions. The problem with Marxists is that they believe in a perfect solution, when in reality they just ignore the many flaws.

Rush will be unlistenable tomorrow. He’ll spend hours talking about how he doesn’t like talking about himself while playing cuts of people talking about himself. Now, we’ll get to hear him talk about the Pope talking about him while not talking about himself.

I'll betcha you will hear him say something like - the Pope is now mentioning me. I only wish my dad was alive.

I hope the Pope’s problem (and/or his advisers) is that he, and they, are do not refine the distinction between the essense of Oligarchies ( power effectively rests with a small number of people) the effects of Oligarchies on different political organizations (RC Church, Communism, Nazism, Obamaism Religion, Capitalization). Given the Church’s Oligarchy’s inaction with economics of all types of Political Oligarchies, particularly their own, I can understand their muddling of the definition.

To: what's up

In America, individuals and corporations have paid literally trillions of dollars in taxes over the years.

Individuals and corporations have given trillions more to charities over the years.

There are endless programs and freebies for the poor.

Also, how many poor people are hired by other poor people? None. The successful invest their money in business and they, the capitalists, hire poor people......give them jobs.

This pope must be kidding if he really believes the nonsense he’s been spouting lately.

“I have met many Marxists in my life who are good people ”

It is literally impossible to be a Marxist and a good person. The best you can be is a useful idiot.

Unfortunately, Pope Francis is coming dangerously close to being a member of that group.

I’m not sure this is exactly where you were heading there, but your comments did make me think of this.

The Church itself was somewhat guilty of what it now takes the U. S. to task over. Early missions in the Americans were there to present the message of Jesus Christ to the local relatively poor people.

Churches were built that were quite opulent when compared to local lifestyles. It was glaring and improper.

I’m not here to dump on the church for it. It’s just an interesting factoid. They U. S. is by and large a Christian nation. He should consider how it compares to Middle Eastern nations, or simply other nations.

Voluntary giving (IE ACTUAL GENUINE CHARITY) is wonderful, encouraged that all should do it - consider the widow’s mite parable.

You can be rich and generous.

You can be rich, and stingy and greedy.

You can be poor, and generous.

You can be poor, and stingy and greedy.

While it may be easier to rationalize being stingy/greedy, depending on the amount of wealth you have, it’s not an excuse for the mindset of greediness.

Forced giving (required giving, compulsory giving) is NOT genuine giving. It is compelled from someone by force. It’s robbery. Whether it’s a law and legal, or whether it’s a crook pointing a gun at you.

“Government Charity” is not genuine charity. It is money the government DEMANDS from certain people by threat of force, if not turned over, in order that government may bestow it on whatever particular pet groups it wants to. The concept of “government charity” is an oxymoron. Government compassion is take a blue pill, we cannot afford to treat you as you’re not worth enough to society. That is why true charity begins with church, with individuals exercising control over their own money.

Of course it is a parable about spiritual wealth. But He would not use a story about an evil rich man doing bad to illustrate a spiritual good. It was an example about an Earthly good thing that everyone would understand.
