Scientists discover double meaning in genetic code
University of Washington ^ | 12/12/2013 | University of Washington

Scientists have discovered a second code hiding within DNA. This second code contains information that changes how scientists read the instructions contained in DNA and interpret mutations to make sense of health and disease.

UW scientists were stunned to discover that genomes use the genetic code to write two separate languages. One describes how proteins are made, and the other instructs the cell on how genes are controlled. One language is written on top of the other, which is why the second language remained hidden for so long.

The genetic code uses a 64-letter alphabet called codons. The UW team discovered that some codons, which they called duons, can have two meanings, one related to protein sequence, and one related to gene control.

Evolution just got exponentially harder to explain. And by the looks of things over on that thread, the replies reveal that some folk are really shook up about it. The gnashing of teeth continues in the face of God.

“Where does this attitude of treating science like the enemy of God come from?”

From one side of those who don’t understand the Bible and biology are answering different questions. It makes me sad that so many Christians have become anti-science in so many ways.

Lol. What’s that picture from?

The complexity of DNA expands exponentially, yet they fail to glorify the creator

I can't help but believe there's an intelligence far greater than ours doing the programming for life as we know it.

The author said that, “These two meanings seem to have evolved in concert with each other. The gene control instructions appear to help stabilize certain beneficial features of proteins and how they are made.”

Evolve as in changing over time. Do you think that is incorrect? Also, the author writes as though he isn’t one of the scientists involved in the study.

Am I male?
Am I female?
I don't know .. I don't know
does it matter?
Do I care?
What am I?
Am I both?
I'm both, right?
What am I, WHAT AM I
Oh please tell me ..
please
what am I?
Am I scar tissue?
Well .. am I?

"I view the theory of evolution as one possible explanation of how HE did it."

Under Darwin's conception of evolution that's impossible. Darwinian evolution is predicated on random chance mutation as the basis for natural selection. If there is a guiding hand behind "evolution" (ie. theistic evolution) then it is not Darwinism. I personally believe that if we could discover everyting there is to know about DNA we would discover that all the genetic information which ever has or ever will exist has been there from the beginning. If one equates "evolution" as "adaptation" using preexisting genetic information in the environment then that makes perfect sense - God provided from the beginning everything needed for life to adapt and change in the face of a volitile, dynamic environment.

Your post is childish. In the article, they give credit to evolution.

It's obvious by now that evolution is God's chosen way to create.

I don’t really think scientists are flocking to that thread. However, the hostility toward Christianity over there is over the top.

Why is that? It certainly isn’t because evolution was crowned king with this discovery.

That sentence makes you the enemy of most of the people posting on this thread. Denies the literal truth of Genesis 1:24 (according to them).

Such discoveries are evidence that evolution is not a true science.

ELLIE: You found the primer.
HADDEN: Clever girl! Lights.
HADDEN: Pages and pages of data. Over 63 thousand in all, and on the perimeter of each...
ELLIE: ...alignment symbols, registration marks, but they don’t line up.
HADDEN: They do, if you think like a Vegan. An alien intelligence is going to be more advanced. That means efficiency functioning on multiple levels and in multiple dimensions.
ELLIE: Yes! Of course. Where is the primer?
HADDEN: You’ll see. Every three-dimensional page contains a piece of the primer; there it was all the time, staring you in the face. Buried within the message itself, is the key...
Here by three-dimensional page he means six of the square pages combined into a cube. In the simulations the six faces become transparent except for the writing. When two opposite faces are superimposed a hidden message becomes visible.
WHITE HOUSE - CABINET ROOM (Ellie finishes the sentence that she started in the previous scene)
ELLIE: ...to decoding it. Within the layering of the matrix, we have these basic equations. So with this very elementary foundation, they have given us a kind of general scientific vocabulary. We now have the symbols for true and false...
Every three-dimensional page contains three messages corresponding to the three pairs of opposite faces of a cube.
DAVID DRUMLIN: (Cutting Ellie off) ...This was the key, to put it simply, that allowed us to decipher their language for physics, geometry, chemistry, next frame Ellie.

“Where does this attitude of treating science like the enemy of God come from?”

Good question. I think from the corruption and perversion of science for socio-political goals. And hostilities certain scientists may display toward religious people.

Well perhaps when you don’t throw a strawman out I’ll respond.

“Scientists” sure get sensitive when its proven their facts are bunk.

There is no way my assertion conflicts with Gen 1:24, in fact it confirms it. Gen 1:24 says God created land creatures “in their kind”. God created all his kinds of creatures with all the genetic information necessary to adapt to a changing environment.

Your statement shows that the accusation about scientists thinking they know it all does have a basis. Perhaps not precisely, but the general attitude that science has it figured out is there.

“Show me a scientists that ever said “oh, I wish we hadn’t learned that”.”

Heard an interview on Dennis Pragers show recently. He was interviewing a guy who had two PhDs, one was in evolutionary biology. He worked for the Smithsonian and was in charge of their magazine. He published a peer reviewed article someone had sent him on intelligent design.

He ended up getting run out of the Smithsonian. The “scientists” there were only willing to consider science which fit their world view.

Kinda like that guy a long time ago who was jailed for saying the earth wasn’t the center of the universe.

Not all that hard to show “scientists” who allow emotion to run their science.

“There are quite a few Freepers who believe “scientists” is synonymous with “athiests”.”

Quite a few scientists and science popularizers believe that also (mainly the loud ones who want attention and get it) and that’s the crux of the problem.

There is also here the lefty evil corporation contingent here as well.
