A cross atop Mount Soledad in California is an unconstitutional religious display on government land and must come down, a federal judge in San Diego ruled late Thursday.
U.S. District Judge Larry Burns ordered the cross, which honors veterans, must be removed within 90 days -- a decision that could result in the case being sent back to the U.S. Supreme Court. Burns immediately stayed his order pending an expected appeal.

great post
Thank you. I appreciate it.
(2) NONDISCRIMINATION.No government shall impose or

any assembly or institution on the basis of religion or religious denomination.
Federal law. Passed by Congress in the year 2000
Of course! Another republican party gift. You’ll never see a “conservative” opinion from ANY democrat appointed judge. They don’t put through lightweights! So tired of this same crap over and over.
IN the US Christianity is now being hounded. In Russia The Russian Orthodox Patriarch has a front row seat for Putin’s State of the Union speech.
In Russia, the Moscow Patriarch’s close association with the regime is probably costing the MP Church considerable membership. I am not saying that a friendly relationship between the church and the state is bad, but this particular relationship is not good. In my humble opinion.
The history of the thing is not in dispute, a cross was put up privately as a memorial and the family left the property to the city back at a time where it would've been unthinkable for such a thing to be controversial.
Moving it won't work well because it's concrete and that would defeat the point anyway.
Well yes that is your opinion. However, in fact the Orthodox Christian Church in Ukraine in communion with Moscow is finally growing stronger thanks to standing firm against the secularists in the so called west.
Christians should become a huge voting block and vote accordingly.
This stuff didn’t become “unconstitutional” overnight. The language of The Constitution hasn’t changed, so what was good a hundred years ago is good today.
Get this b****** off the bench
In Ukraine this is a question of Ukrainian nationhood, not secularist sympathies, and it is clear that the Ukrainian nation, weighing the pluses and minuses, prefers Europe to Putin.
In my opinion, MP is precisely the Soviet Orthodox Church, and so naturally the Soviets in the Ukraine would probably stick with Gundyaev. The unified Russian Orthodox Church does not exist anymore, except for some Orthodox splinters of ROCOR.
Because that is what the Cross means: sacrifice for freedom.
They can’t discern their own folly and will never renounce their sin until the Creator tells them to in His presence.
Good example, Reagan signed into law King Day, which made Obama possible.
Wishful and very biased thinking on your part.
The senate had just taken steps to seat more of these judges.
What insight do you have into my wishes? I am Russian ethnically, American citizen, and a convert to the Catholic Church. My views on Putin and the Moscow Patriarchate Church are formed by intelligent people who I respect who live in Russia, view the events in Ukraine wishing the Russians could have a similar national spirit, and have despaired over the Soviet Orthodox Church. None of that concerns me directly. I’d be happy to believe the glaze-and-sparkle picture of Putin/Gundyaev trio leading Russia back to authentic Christianity, but it just doesn’t seem to relate to any reality.
Needless to say, like any Catholic convert I have no ill-will whatsoever to the Orthodox Church as a general proposition, or as most ethnic Churches, and consider them Catholic in spirit already. The situation in the Former Soviet Union is distressful to me precisely because I want Russia to be Orthodox Christian once again.
Our leaders make similar displays of spirituality, by the way. Visits to black churches, prayer breakfasts, papal masses in Washington, they are all there, like wind-up dolls.
Wow, surprise, surprise, surprise, once again GWB is the culprit! As with Ronald W. Reagan and Anthony Kennedy and GHWB and David Souter. Conservatives just won’t do their homework.
-——Yes, an eternal flame on a grave is a clear symbol of satanism, objectively speaking. -——
Do have a citation on that factoid other than your own opinion....
I’ve studied the occult and remember nothing of the sort....
When we die we either die in Christ, and then there is a cross on our grave, or we die and go to hell, where the fire never stops.
What desire, do you think, does a flame emerging from the grave express?
