THIS JUST IN ON FREEPMAIL:

The decision whether to attempt to recover the plane, for now, is out of the hands of Makani Kai Air.

If the NTSB decides to attempt to recover, and it is feasible, they will. After our NTSB has “released” the wreckage; either recovered or unrecovered, Makani Kai Air, their insurers and financiers can decide what to do with the wreckage.

If they abandon it on the ocean floor, I guess U.S. maritime law regarding salvage will become operative.

The NTSB is the independent federal agency responsible for investigating the Hawaii aircraft accident in which Fuddy died.

“The NTSB originated in the Air Commerce Act of 1926, in which the U.S. Congress charged the U.S. Department of Commerce with investigating the causes of aircraft accidents. Later, that responsibility was given to the Civil Aeronautics Board’s Bureau of Aviation Safety, when it was created in 1940.

“In 1967, Congress consolidated all transportation agencies into a new U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) and established the NTSB as an independent agency placed within the DOT for administrative purposes. In creating the NTSB, Congress envisioned that a single organization with a clearly defined mission could more effectively promote a higher level of safety in the transportation system than the individual modal agencies working separately. Since 1967, the NTSB has investigated accidents in the aviation, highway, marine, pipeline, and railroad modes, as well as accidents related to the transportation of hazardous materials.

“In 1974, Congress reestablished the NTSB as a completely separate entity, outside the DOT, reasoning that “...No federal agency can properly perform such (investigatory) functions unless it is totally separate and independent from any other ... agency of the United States.” Because the DOT has broad operational and regulatory responsibilities that affect the safety, adequacy, and efficiency of the transportation system, and transportation accidents may suggest deficiencies in that system, the NTSB’s independence was deemed necessary for proper oversight. The NTSB, which has no authority to regulate, fund, or be directly involved in the operation of any mode of transportation, conducts investigations and makes recommendations from an objective viewpoint.” http://www.ntsb.gov/about/history.html

See http://www.ntsb.gov/investigations/process.html and NTSB 830 which describes the regulatory process: http://www.ecfr.gov/cgi-bin/text-idx?tpl=/ecfrbrowse/Title49/49cfr830_main_02.tpl

But, the lack of additional NTSB action three days after the accident already is disturbing.

No Preliminary finding has yet been issued, nor has the accident been added to the NTSB monthly report of aviation accidents.

Nor has it been added to the list of current investigations: http://www.ntsb.gov/investigations/current.html

NTSB has issued no press releases: http://www.ntsb.gov/news/press_releases.html

I don’t know, Fred. They were set up already when I got home from the hospital. I didn’t do them. Springfield Reformer set up one. I think Hardraade set up the other. I would have never thought of it myself.
Go Fund Me is far more expensive than Paypal though. They take a lot more out of each donation than Paypal. A LOT more.

I’d have to bust my arm to earn enough money to get one of those.

Maybe prayer is my best option. I’ve still got the use of my knees anyway. lol

I would feel really badly if money went to me instead of Mesta. I’ve got it SO good compared to what she’s dealing with. I’ll be fine. I’m just a ninny. I actually feel really lazy, not using my arm.

For a long time I’ve thought about taking orders for my baking. In real life I’m known as a pretty good cook. I think it’s just that I love to bake and cook, and making other people happy makes me really happy, so I make a lot of homemade stuff that people like, for church or school fundraising.

My trouble, though, is that my whole life has been spent in serving so it’s a whole new thought for me to do something like that for money. Feels like I ought to just give it away; that’s what I really enjoy. And I hate competition. I sometimes wonder if I’m agoraphobic because I hate to try to sell myself or anything about me. I was really competetive as a kid, but when it’s about people making a living I don’t want to take away from other people. There’s a lady in our church who bakes and sells kolaches, which is something I bake that people really like. But I don’t want to take away from what she’s able to sell. She’s a dear, sweet lady and needs the income more than I do.

For a long time I’ve wanted to write a book about my parents, but I don’t think it would sell much; too subtle for most people.

I don’t know. If it weren’t for the taxes, insurance, car repairs, college loans for our kids, etc, I’d say I should just spend less. I’m very selective in what I buy, even when it causes big tensions with my husband because his family never had to live that way - at least not much compared to my dirt-poor farm family with 12 kids. But the above items are non-negotiable, and as anybody on a fixed income knows, when the government says you have to buy it, that’s just it. You either have to earn more, or cut into stuff like food, clothes, medical care, electricity, etc.

But so many people have it so much worse than I do. I feel like a big whiner for even saying anything. We’re doing OK, and people here have already been way too kind to me. Freepers are the best, most caring people in the world, and I’m so thankful. I think this time, I’m supposed to learn to trust and watch the Lord somehow provide a place where my skills belong. He’ll do it; I just need to trust and wait.

I wonder how long the NTSB usually takes to put incidents on their list, or to come up with a cause for crashes. They still don’t have anything for the Cessna engine failure off Maui on Oct 20, 2013.

The wheels of bureaucracy grind ever so slowly...by the time they start rolling, it’s all been forgotten I guess. Stupidity and corruption are the fertilizers of conspiracy theories. Planes drop out of the sky and the paper-work is still lying on someone’s desk.
Public servants die of old age before anyone thinks to ask any questions, or like Fuddy, breathe their last in a choppy sea waiting for rescue.
I would like to see Verna Lee asked how was that bc application submitted for her signature. Did it arrive from the hospital, or was it walked in off the street?
Would she remember?
Would she tell us?
Whose bc did she really sign on that 8th of August, the same day Virginia’s death announcement appeared...

And how old is she now?

The current Chair of the NTSB is Deborah Hersman, a Democrat and an Obama appointee.

I think she’s in her 90’s. I’d really love some real answers from her too.

I would dearly like to hear her explain how one birth on August 4 can have a certificate number 151-1961 010641 and another on the same day is 151-1961 011080

http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_dTeuS-8NlCs/TLSVvZBWNuI/AAAAAAAAAHQ/JhRlhuhgRHo/s1600/Obama+Live+birth_certificate_5.jpg

short of a baby boom amounting to 449 births on that day, only a forensic investigation will suffice to explain that miracle...

So why don’t you write to her and ask her how is the investigation coming along?

Re the first crash: we just saw last night on TV the old movie The Jagged Edge, where the evil Jeff Bridges character actually committed a pre-copycat crime a couple months before he committed his goal crime, killing his wife to inherit all. Not saying this happened here, but it was just a weird juxtaposition.
