Judge Orders Colorado Bakery to Cater for Same-Sex Weddings

A Colorado baker who refused to make a cake for a gay couple has been given an ultimatum by a judge; serve gay weddings or face fines.

Administrative law judge Robert N. Spence found Friday that Jack Phillips of Masterpiece Cakeshop in Denver, Colo. violated the law when he turned away David Mullins, 29, and Charlie Craig, 33, from his shop last year.

In his written decision, Spence ordered that Phillips "cease and desist from discriminating" against gay couples, or face financial penalties, and cited Colorado state law that prohibits businesses from refusing service based on race, sex, marital status or sexual orientation.

“Anybody know where this black robed Nazi gets the authority to do this?”

Colorado law, unfortunately.

It’s very clear - gays are a protected class and can’t be denied service any more than a business could deny a black couple.

We don’t like it, but it’s the law. The judge’s only job in this case was to apply the law, not invalidate it. We don’t need more activist judges who decide which laws they’re going to uphold and which they’re going to ignore.

This needs to be appealed to the Colorado Supreme Court, which has both the power and the duty to invalidate bad state laws. That’s exactly where this one belongs, and it can’t come soon enough.

They might even pay a chemist to analyze it, hoping they find something more to sue you for. I wonder how much that would cost.

First they told us we had to buy something. Now they are telling us we have to sell something. We should be burning down their houses. I love the smell of burning tyrants in the morning. Eff them!

Yes we should but conservatives are extremely lazy and cowardly. They let the leftist vermin walk all over them.

"So this is what it looks like when liberty dies...."

The real problem here is that Colorado passed that law against refusing service based on sexual orientation. Until colorado repeals that law, this kind of insanity is going to continue.

Exactly the way I see it. Refuse the scumbag judge’s order. Tell both him and the perverts to go burn in hell. Anything less is surrender. True, it’s not my shop and my livelihood either, so I might just sound like a keyboard warrior... but I swear to God, bullets would be flying before I’d EVER buckle under to this kind of tyranny.

Mark my words: their bestial behavior will only get worse.

Use cake colors that are ... off.
Something that is unappealing to fashion-minded gays.

Pull a Jesse Jackson on them and spit in it. They will never know and your mind is at ease.

Case should be appealed. Can the courts order an individual to do politically correct behavior if it is contrary to his deeply held personal beliefs? Always wondered what the courts will do to pro life individuals who refuse to take an an oath to “uphold and defend” since it is now the consensus that the constitution permits and sanctions the wholesale killnig of human life.

There are anti-trust laws on the book that prevent charging a different price to customers for the same service. They are rarely enforced anymore. But they are still there.

Could this not be applied to Obamacare?

how can the courts order a private citizen to conduct business with anyone?

I say “no” to many people who ask for my services. IDK who/what/where/when.. I just get a bad vibe and my run forest run instinct triggers..

This......when an asshat masquerading as a judge publicly declares that a company cannot charge what it wishes then we can all know with certainty that we have arrived at Huge
Chavez Socialism in America.
