Knock Out Avoidance: How To Dodge Being A Victim of Violent Thugs
Townhall.com ^ | December 1, 2013 | Doug Giles

Can you imagine getting a phone call that your sweet, seventy-three year old grandma was sucker punched by a roving band of teenaged thugs and she’s now in ICU with a broken jaw and a cracked noggin? You can’t? Yeah, me either. But we should start envisioning such a bizarre scenario for our sainted elders and others because “the knockout game” is all the rage for demonic hood rats lurking the streets.

If you’re not dialed in on the sadistic phenomenon known as the “knock out game” then Google it yourself because I’m not going to provide a link to that chum-slick and give it any traffic. But I will do this for you: I will assist you and yours in avoiding being a potential victim of these vicious sub-human scoundrels. Here’s seven tips to eschew being a stat of such a heinous, violent crime.

1. Since I’m a man of prayer I advise you to pray for protection and not take safety for granted. Call me medieval. Yep, I regularly pray for my loved one’s well-being and trust our Heavenly Father to keep the a-holes a-way.

2. As much as you can, don’t put yourself in the path of a rootless posse of pain. If you have to move to a safer place, then do it.

3. Don’t walk our increasingly mean streets alone and make certain the folks you run with are street smart and will have your back. If you're elderly, I suggest you befriend the Bruce Lee in the neighborhood by making him great meals and, in exchange, have him go with you when you're on a grocery run.

4. Adopt a pit bull, feed it gun powder and call him Satan (or something to that affect); and take him with you everywhere you go.

5. I recommend studying the news clips that show these knock out clowns at work and make a mental note of the age range and the skin color of the culprits. Duh.

6. If you’re young, you’d better get on the stick and become proficient in some form of ass-kicking. The way things are going you’re going to need to know how to throw down for the next few decades given this milieu’s entitlement mentality, our coddling culture and the egregious and growing lack of parental oversight and discipline.

7. Get a concealed carry permit, buy a gun and morph into a proficiency with said weapon that rivals Doc Holliday or Annie Oakley. If you live in some crap city or state that makes it impossible for you to carry out your God-given right of self-defense, then pick your junk up and leave that locale in the dust.

Don’t even begin to try and tell me you can’t do anything about it.

I never said that. I said that carrying a gun isn’t going to automatically make you immune from ever being caught by surprise.

situational awareness and the knowledge that distance is safety

Add visibility and a loud whistle. I avoid places where one looks like a target....too close to walls or obstructions, being in places where there are people with no purpose. Indoor parking garages and isolated parking are a disaster waiting to happen.

No it doesn’t make you immune, just like not having the sense to not be there in the first place and depending on LE to be doing their jobs. But it does offer a very viable option should you be actually aware of coming events through your own vigilance.

My point is that freedom to carry should not, under ANY circumstances, should be implied because the oracles say that it makes no difference anyway.

FYI: These attacks were first reported in the after school hours (3pm to 6pm). The punks all get out of school at the same time...ie.instant gang.

Exactly right. Also makes a good preventative measure. If you look like you are well aware of your surroundings these cowardly thugs are far less likely to target you. They are pussies, they dont want a fight. They sure don’t want to end up looking at the business end of your CCW after having given you sufficient reason to fear for your life and thus be justified in using deadly force.

I’m with you. Don’t put yourself in a bad situation. If one finds you, take early and easy measures to minimize the danger. I don’t care if I offend someone, if I’m profiling or stereotyping. They are stereotypes because they are so often true. Finally, if it comes to a fight, commit 100% to surviving. Better to be alive and labeled a racist than dead.

Whats missing or at least not clear is “situational awareness.”

Situational Awareness is key.

Was in the 5 Points Marta Station recently. Saw a group of yutes. Changed my walking vector to create larger berth. All the while, I was scanning for other problems.

The media reassures us these are not race crimes targeting whites, but would we be told if they are? One of the collateral consequences of partisan journalism is that the news can never be trusted to tell the truth. Our local news station never identifies the race of wanted violent criminals when they are minorities, thereby accurately telegraphing that information by omission. The media has forgotten the importance of its credibility in its zealous pursuit of a political agenda. Partisanship keeps us in the dark as to what’s really going on.

It breaks my heart to see how many places have gone ghetto in recent years. I’ve live in a few different cities around the country. It’s distressing to go back and visit, and see that the old neighborhood I used to live in has become a ghetto.

I spent a number of years in wealthy Montgomery County, Maryland. Even a wealthy area such as that has ghetto neighborhoods now. It really shocks me to go back and visit anymore.

I was in Baltimore a month ago for work and had crab cakes for dinner all three nights of my stay. Obviously, I lived to tell the tale.

I used to live in East Cobb, Georgia...one of the most affluent places in Georgia. My family was there for generations, even before the Civil War.

I sometimes find myself in that area because my doctor is still there and my home bank branch is still there, but it is a wonder to behold the change in even 12 years. Inundated with immigrants, illegal and legal; inundated with Section 8 inhabitants, and faced with the growing unending realization that the million dollar homes and families, interspersed with low-life Section 8 inhabitants are bringing their standard of living down to the Obama Level.

We need to understand that this isn't a "game". We're in a war, and this is combat

Stephen Ambrose, in "Band of Brothers" (I think), writes the following:

In "Wartime," Paul Fussell writes that men in combat go through two stages of rationalization followed by one of perception. Considering the possibility of severe wound or death, the average soldier's first rationalization is: "It can't happen to me. I am too clever/agile/well-trained/good-looking/beloved/tightly-laced, etc." The second rationalization is: It can happen to me, and I'd better be more careful. I can avoid the danger by watching more prudently the way I take cover/dig in/expose my position by firing my weapon/keep extra alert at all times, etc." Finally, the realization is "It is going to happen to me, and only my not being there is going to prevent it."

Sage and very much applicable advice. The only way to avoid the knockout game is not to be there. Stay the heck away from urban areas. If you must go there, only go when you absolutely MUST. Limit how much time you spend - don't linger, go in, do whatever it is you have to do and get the heck out.

Going into an urban for shopping or dining is simply not necessary these days. At all. So the added bonus benefit of doing the above is robbing cities of revenue streams.

Then you are ready to play the game.
